Mojang has revealed the position of the eyes on the new armadillo mob is changing, exciting many Minecraft fans. The announcement of this update to the armadillo comes after feedback from the Minecraft community regarding its visual appearance in recent testing for the game.

Since the armadillo was revealed in the lead-up to Minecraft Live 2023, there has been a lot of hype surrounding the mob. As the most recent winner of the mob vote for Minecraft, the armadillo beat the penguin and crab at the polls. A common praise was its rectangular design, which many fans found adorable. Unfortunately, players realized the position of the eyes on the creature’s face had been moved when it was added in testing for the game. The new positioning placed the eyes on the front instead of the side of the head.

Following the release of the first snapshot, preview, and beta to include the armadillo in Minecraft, many fans took to social media to note they found the eye position off-putting, with many petitioning for a change. Fortunately, Mojang has listened, announcing on Twitter that a "new iteration" of the design would be coming in 2024. The developer noted that community feedback was the catalyst for the upcoming alteration, and this new look would appear in future snapshots and betas. In addition, a screenshot was shared showing the rectangular mob with its black dot eyes positioned on the sides of its head.

Minecraft Fans Like the New Look for the Armadillo

The community response has been largely favorable to the news, with over 13K users already liking the announcement from the developer on Twitter. Furthermore, many fans weighed in on Reddit, explaining why the new look fits the mob better. Among the comments, some users pointed out that front-facing eyes were typical of predators, which was not befitting of the passive armadillo. Others simply stated the updated eyes gave the mob a cuter appearance.

It is worth pointing out that some in the community want other new content related to the armadillo adjusted. Specifically, some players are underwhelmed with how wolf armor looks in Minecraft. A common criticism is the position of the knee pads, which some believe look to be facing the wrong way. For context, wolf armor is made using the scute dropped by armadillos and was likely a reason the new mob won the 2023 mob vote.

Time will tell what future testing has in store for Minecraft. While the developer revealed the new iteration of the armadillo would be implemented sometime in 2024, the exact date remains unknown. In addition, it remains to be seen if Mojang changes wolf armor in upcoming snapshots and betas. However, there could be a chance if the fast response to feedback on the armadillo is any indication.
