While LEGO video games have been around for almost three decades now, and LEGO sets based on popular movies and licensed IP have been around for almost just as long, it took a little longer for LEGO to combine the world of video games with its ever-popular construction toys. But that all changed in 2011 when Mojang itself submitted a LEGO x Minecraft design to the LEGO Ideas program. In 2012, the first LEGO Minecraft set was released, depicting a "Micro World" version of the game's Forest biome.

This simple set pushed open the floodgates, with three more Micro World Minecraft LEGO sets releasing within the next two years, and this in turn paving the way for an extended LEGO x Minecraft collaboration. Beginning in November 2014, LEGO started to produce a range of playsets based on Minecraft's various biomes, characters, creatures, and structures, a range that's still going to this day. It's been over a decade since LEGO first released a Minecraft set, and it's been 15 years since Minecraft first came out, and that's cause for some celebration. At least LEGO seems to think so, as it's about to release a pretty stunning new LEGO Minecraft set to celebrate the franchise's 15th anniversary.

Minecraft's 15th Anniversary LEGO Set Explained

Set for release on August 1, 2024, the LEGO Minecraft Crafting Table set is being released specifically to celebrate the game's 15th anniversary, and there's no better way to do that than by producing a set based on one of the game's most iconic items. Coming in at an impressive 1195 pieces—which is pretty great for the $79.99 price tag—this LEGO Minecraft Crafting Table celebrates the game's long history by distilling 12 biomes into one compact set.

From the forest to the desert to the taiga to the cherry grove, fans will be able to build micro representations of just about every iconic biome Minecraft has ever offered. Fans will also be able to build eight separate microfigures of beloved Minecraft mobs and characters ranging from Steve and Alex to skeletons, Creepers, a witch, and animals like the cow and pig, all of whom can be placed almost anywhere in the model. What's particularly interesting about this LEGO Minecraft Crafting Table set is that it marks the first adult-oriented set in the range since its debut over a decade ago, with its age rating listed as 18+.

Other LEGO Sets Coinciding With Minecraft's 15th Anniversary

While the Crafting Table is the only LEGO Minecraft set being released to officially tie in with the game's 15th anniversary, there are a handful of other LEGO Minecraft sets that are also technically releasing alongside this impressive milestone. Released on June 1, there are a total of six new LEGO Minecraft sets available, each one coming with a handful of minifigure characters and mobs, along with a sizable build based on the biomes, blocks, and structures within the game.

The smallest of these new LEGO Minecraft sets is Pirate Ship Voyage, which consists of just 166 pieces but retails for only $14.99. The most expensive set in this new wave is the LEGO Minecraft Ender Dragon and End Ship, which contains 657 pieces and retails for $79.99. This new wave also includes the Badlands Mineshaft set, the Wolf Stronghold, the Cherry Blossom Garden, and the Windmill Farm.
