Brian Micheal Bendis reacted to the fact that Miles Morales will be getting his own standalone game in Spider-Man Miles Morales. While the ending of Spider-Man PS4 wasn't shy about hinting at Miles playing an essential role in the future of the series, his headlining his own game has left a lot of fans pleasantly surprised, including Bendis.

Yesterday, Sony and Insomniac Games announced Spider-Man Miles Morales for the PlayStation 5 during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal event. The title received a small teaser showing off its graphical prowess with the PS5 before revealing that the game's release window was the same as Sony's next-generation console. There's no exact date for when either of these things come out, but they'll release sometime near the end of this year.

Bendis happily responded to this announcement on Instagram by reposting the Spider-Man Miles Morales teaser-trailer to his account. For the post's caption, he quoted a line from the teaser: "Now it's your turn; go be a hero, Miles." He then signed off the post with a hashtag saying, "proud dad."

Bendis wasn't the only Miles Morales handler to take note of the news either. Peter Ramsey, the director behind Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse, reacted to Spider-Man Miles Morales' announcement as well. When Matthew A. Cherry, the voice behind Miles in the Spider-Verse movie, responded to the news with a tweet, Ramsey retweeted it with a reaction gif.

The only caveat to Spider-Man Miles Morales is that it isn't a full-blown sequel to the original Spider-Man PS4 that happens to revolve around Miles. While it will be a standalone title, it'll be something similar to that of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, so it'll likely do its own thing. If anything players can consider it more of an extended epilogue.

Before the Future of Gaming showcase, Insomniac said that the next full game it was working on wasn't Spider-Man 2, so this caveat for Spider-Man Miles Morales makes sense. Insomniac revealed during the showcase that the next full game would be a sequel to 2016's Ratchet and Clank, one titled Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Brian Micheal Bendis and Sara Pichelli created Miles Morales. The two worked together to bring Miles to life during the Ultimate Spider-Man comic run. Bendis wrote and conceptualized the character while Pichelli drew and created the physical designs behind Miles' civilian and superhero personas.

Spider-Man Miles Morales launches exclusively for the PlayStation 5 during Holiday 2020.
