The recent Switch port of Miitopia has attracted an impressive amount of attention. Despite the relatively niche nature of the original Nintendo 3DS game, more and more players are drawn to this newer version. This is in part due to the incredible character creation update that Nintendo has employed, but it seems that the game's general aesthetic is something that players are really enjoying right now. Given that players can make their characters look however they want, it seems as though it would make the perfect family game, so fans are curious about whether or not it has any sort of co-op functions.

For those that might not know, each character in Miitopia can be fully customized. Players can either use the Mii creator to make their own Miis or download designs from other players using access key codes. Traditionally Miis are made to resemble the player themselves, but there's absolutely nothing stopping players from going crazy and making a Mii of anything.

Unfortunately, Miitopia does not have any form of multiplayer. The game is a completely single player experience in every way, so this might not work as well as a family game as once thought. That said, there are still ways that players can include everyone while playing the game. With its turn based combat system, players could simply take turns passing the controller around to decide what their Mii will do. This is by no means an ideal solution, but it would work.

If playing the game with kids, creating Miis to represent them is a great way to keep them engaged and invested in what's going on. Let them make decisions on what they want their character to do on each turn, even if there's a more optimal course of action that could be taken. Friends and couples could do the same thing as well, but there's no built in multiplayer feature to make this any easier. This feature didn't exist in the 3DS version either, and despite fans' hopeful pleas for a multiplayer mode to be added in the Switch port, it was not to be.

While it is theoretically possible that multiplayer could be added in the future given the success of Miitopia on Switch, it is highly unlikely. As this is just a port and not a true remake, most things will remain identical to the 3DS version. Fans shouldn't hold out hope for any kind of multiplayer update.

Miitopia is available now on Switch.
