Firaxis Games released Marvel's Midnight Suns for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in December 2022, and although a Nintendo Switch version was planned, the port has been canceled. Like some other games that have been released in recent years, the current-gen versions are releasing at a different time than the previous-gen and Nintendo Switch, but Marvel's Midnight Suns will only be coming to PS4 and Xbox One from this point.

Marvel's Midnight Suns joined other popular games like Hogwarts Legacy in staggering the release for previous-generation hardware so they could get it out on current consoles. With a Switch version planned alongside the PS4 and Xbox One ports, many Nintendo fans anticipated the ability to take Marvel's Midnight Suns utilizing the hybrid tech as they could with other tactical titles like Mario + Rabbids or XCOM. Though the PS4 and Xbox One versions will be launching alongside Marvel's Midnight Suns' Blood Storm DLC which introduces Storm from the X-Men, the Nintendo Switch will not even be getting the base version anymore.

2K Games and Firaxis have confirmed that the Nintendo Switch version of Marvel's Midnight Suns has been canceled, but a launch day of May 11 has been set for the remaining platforms. The Nintendo Switch version had been pushed back in the past like the PS4 and Xbox One ports, but the former has been canceled altogether, leaving Nintendo fans with one less Marvel title to look forward to. Perhaps due to the development focus shifting entirely to the two remaining ports, the removal of the Nintendo Switch version may have played a role in the PS4 and Xbox One getting the tactical RPG so soon.

All four existing Marvel's Midnight Suns DLC packs will all be dropped on PS4 and Xbox One when it launches on the platforms, potentially making the Legendary Edition of the game more enticing for players. Each DLC introduces new Marvel heroes and strong storylines that expand on what has already been established in the base game, with Deadpool being a focus of The Good, The Bad, and the Undead, Venom being the hero of Redemption, and Morbius spotlighted in The Hunger. Marvel's Midnight Suns fans that were planning to use the Nintendo Switch in order to play the game on the go may still be able to play it on the Steam Deck where it performs well.

Although rumors about a follow-up or next-gen upgrade to the Nintendo Switch have been circulating for years, Marvel's Midnight Suns could have benefited from the stronger hardware as the Switch is running on dated tech. Because Firaxis and 2K Games were brief about their cutting of the Nintendo Switch version of Marvel's Midnight Suns, it's currently unclear what the precise reasons were for dropping it.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with PS4 and Xbox One versions releasing May 11.
