Marvel's Midnight Suns is a story-rich turn-based RPG that follows the Hunter, a completely customizable hero, and their plight to save the world from ending. The Hunter teams up with the Avengers and the Midnight Suns at their home base, the Abbey. While it's not an open-world game, the Abbey has many secrets and hidden treasures to discover.

The vast land is more significant than it looks and players can spend hours simply exploring the grounds to find collectibles, uncover lore, and get Arcane Chests. Arcane chests are spread throughout the Abbey and contain useful items like Credits, Gloss, suit skins, and more.

Arcane Chest Locations

Midnight Suns Map

Many Arcane chests are hidden and will only be revealed by completing a puzzle or moving forward with the Words of Power. The Words of Power are magic spells only available to the Hunter using ruins and the power of the Elder Gods, Oshtur, Atum, Hyppus, and Set. After unlocking all the Words of Power, players can find all the Arcane chests.

The chests can be opened using Arcane keys, which are rewarded from Daily Sparring at the training grounds and socializing, or found using the Words of Power. The best part of Arcane chests is that they replenish themselves every few days, so they can be revisited to get even more rewards. 40 chests with varying rarity levels are labeled on the map through color coding. Here are all the different types of Arcane chests available in Midnight Suns:

  • Common (white) - 8
  • Rare (blue) - 12
  • Epic (orange) - 11
  • Legendary (purple) - 9

The Abbey (5 Chests)

Midnight Suns The Abbey

The Abbey is where all the heroes spend their time sleeping, training, hanging out, and getting upgrades at the Forge. Three Arcane chests are inside the Abbey, and two more are outside it. Players should use the fast travel points to get to them the fastest. The first is a Common Arcane chest in the front hallway next to Hunter's room. The second one, also Common, can be found in the hang-out area near the globe across from the bar. The last indoor one is in Agatha's Library. The library must be unlocked using the first Word of Power, "Open." Once inside, players will see the Legendary Arcane chest directly to the right.

The two outside the Abbey can be found exiting the War Room. Go past the four statues, and tucked into a corner in "The Wild Cliffs" is a Common Arcane chest. The final one by the Abbey requires the Four Statue Mystery to be solved. After all four statues have been activated, an Epic Arcane chest will appear in their center.

Hunter's Folly (1 Chest)

Midnight Suns Hunter's Folly

There is one chest in Hunter's Folly. After getting the Four Statue chest, to the left, there is a trail that leads upwards to a wooded area that contains the Hunter's resurrection site. Behind the mausoleum on the right side is a Rare Arcane chest.

Agatha's Altar (2 Chests)

Midnight Suns Agatha's Altar

Agatha's Altar is behind the Training area outside the Abbey and is home to two chests. Follow the trail leading up a steep hill, and an entrance to the Elemental Altar area is at the top. The Common chest is inside the altar to the left, up a small staircase past the gate. In addition, there is a Rare chest behind the altar across the broken bridge. The Hunter can use the "Reveal" power to fix the bridge and access the chest.

Whispering Wood (1 Chest)

Midnight Suns Whispering Wood

The entrance to the Whispering Wood is at Agatha's Altar. Coming from the bridge with the Rare chest, move back towards the Altar entrance and look to the left to find a round arch that leads to a different door. Through this entrance is a larger area called Whispering Wood. Players should keep moving forward until they encounter a large crack in the wall that they can break using Set's Word of Power. Then, walk through the entrance and follow the path to the right to a long bridge. Players can see the Rare chest in front of them a little distance away when they reach the end of the bridge.

Oshtur's Cavern (1 Chest)

Midnight Suns Oshtur's Cavern

After getting access to the first Word of Power, "Open," players can explore Oshtur's Cavern. The entrance is north of the Abbey and labeled Blood Gate on the map. After entering from the Blood Gate, jump down the ledge and find Oshtur's Altar statue. Next, take the staircase to another cavern section with an exit left or a Common Arcane chest to the right at the back of the cave.

Dreamer's Descent (4 Chests)

Midnight Suns Dreamer's Descent

Dreamers Descent is where the Hunter spent most of their childhood. Players can use fast travel to get there if they have already visited. Otherwise, they will need to head northeast from the Abbey past the hill leading to Hunter's Folly. The first chest is an Epic and is hidden behind a small puzzle. At the bottom of the entrance to Dreamer's Descent, take a sharp right, and there is a wall with a crack. Break the barrier using the Word of Power to expose a small grave site with a small altar. Upon investigating, the Hunter will notice that one of the graves has been disturbed. This triggers a new mystery for players to parse out. To solve the disturbed grave mystery, use "Reveal" on the altar, and bones will appear that can be picked up and placed in the grave. A cutscene will reveal an Epic Arcane chest.

To get to the following three chests, use the Dreamer's Descent fast travel point to bring the Hunter more toward the middle. From there, move forward a few feet and look to the left to find a wooden uphill path. The path leads to a short bridge with a Rare chest at one of the ends. Go back to the fast travel point and head in the same direction as the bridge with the Rare chest, but instead of looking left, continue forward to the altar to the right. This altar is essential as it is a puzzle for the next chest. Four dolls in random places in Dreamer's Descent must be found and placed on the altar. One of the dolls is actually located in a small outdoor dining area next to a Common Arcane chest southeast of the altar near the two blue torches. After placing all the dolls, an Epic chest is revealed next to the altar.

Stone Terrace (4 Chests)

Midnight Suns Stone Terrace

The Stone Terrace is east of Dreamer's Descent, and four Arcane chests are found there. If players head further east, they will come across a group of stones called the Standing Stones. The Standing Stones are the key to a puzzle that reveals three Epic Arcane chests after using the "Reveal" power over the ruin in the center of the stones to make symbols appear on the stones. A symbol sequence is found around the Abbey grounds for each chest. A chest appears on the stone center whenever the correct sequence is entered.

The last chest in Stone Terrace is easy to find since the Rare Arcane chest sits northeast of the Standing Stones in a small corner of the map.

Valley of the Winds (3 Chests)

Midnight Suns Valley of the Winds

The chests in the Valley of the Winds are near Shaw's Church. Shaw's Church is important for moving forward with the Elder God's Challenges and getting the Word of Power "Purify" and the Symbiote suit from Dr. Strange. The church is towards the back of the Valley of the Winds northeast of the Abbey grounds. At the back of the church, on the left side of the building, is a Legendary Arcane chest.

There is a Rare chest directly north of Shaw's Church at the end of a dead-end trail. If standing in front of the church, there is a visible fork in the road. The path on the right leads to the Rare chest, while the other route takes players to the bridge that moves over Shaw's Church. There is a Common chest just before players get to the bridge.

Gideon's Cross (2 Chests)

Midnight Suns Gideon's Cross

Gideon's Cross is located between Dreamer's Descent and Everflowing Glade. From Dreamer's Descent, travel north until there is a breakable wall. On the other side, there is a small makeshift altar, and if players use "Reveal," it triggers a cutscene, and a Rare Arcane chest appears.

Keep moving north past the rock with two candles sticking out of it to an enormous pile of stones that can be broken. Past that is a crossroad with a statue shrine to the right and another cracked wall to the left, and behind that wall is a Legendary Arcane chest.

Everflowing Glade (5)

Midnight Suns Everflowing Glade

Keep moving north from the Gideon's Cross Legendary chest to get to Everflowing Glade. The first two chests are inside the Elder God Hyppus's shrine. A Legendary chest is wrapped in vines that players can use the "Purify" power on. An Epic chest is also hidden behind the cracked wall behind the giant Hyppus statue.

The other chests are found in Everflowing Glade. After exiting the shrine, go uphill along the stone path and take a left and the following immediate path to the right to get to the graveyard with a Common chest. Then players should make their way north back to the hill that leads into the Everflowing Glade, and right next to it is an uphill path that leads to Agatha's Cottage. On the map, the cottage is sitting in the furthest northeast corner. There is a Rare chest inside the cottage, but players must use "Reveal" on the green statue near the cottage to make the final Epic chest at Agatha's Cottage appear.

The last chest in Everfliowng Glade is to the west. Backtrack from Agatha's Cottage and keep going until finding two paths on the right that lead to a bridge and the "Reveal" ruin, and after using the Word of Power to fix the bridge, players can get a Legendary chest at the end of it.

Misty Moors (1 Chest)

Midnight Suns Misty Moors

North of the Shop to the right is a cracked wall that takes players to the Misty Moors. Go deeper into the Misty Moors but wait to approach the first cracked wall; instead, follow the path to the right until coming across a smaller trail that goes northeast to a breakable wall. There is a floating stone with skulls, so use "Reveal" to make a Legendary chest appear.

Garden of Envy (10 Chests)

Midnight Suns Garden of Envy

The Garden of Envy is west of the Everflowing Glade or north of the Misty Moors. It has the most Arcane chests in one central area and is also where Lilith's Garden is located. If coming from the Everflowing Glade, the first chest can be found near the territory line between the Garden of Envy and the glade on the hill. Halfway down the slope into Garden of Envy is an adjacent shrine area with the Legendary chest. Just past that area, players can find three Rare chests almost aligned in a triangle. The first one is to the right at the bottom of the hill, the next is across from it, and the third is inside the small grave area in front of Lilith's Garden.

There are three more chests inside Lilith's Garden. Towards the back of the garden is a Rare chest that also sits in front of the entrance to an underground area. Players need to "Purify" the opening and break the wall to access the ladder, and two Epic chests are found inside the underground bunker. Additionally, players will discover Set's Shrine and a Legendary chest if they move north of the garden.

Next, go back to the hill leading to Lilith's Garden and follow the path north to go under the bridge to Set's Shrine. Before going under the bridge, take the path to the right that leads to a cave with a giant statue. There will be a smaller statue inside the water. Hit this statue with "Reveal" to make an Epic chest show up in front of the bigger statue. Lastly, exit the cave and go under the stone bridge to a small foggy area called Devil's Den. Keep going west, and there is a Legendary chest on the furthest western corner.

These instructions aren't necessarily the only order players can seek out the Arcane chests, but it can save some time to know where they are in each area.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is available now for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and is coming soon to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
