Microsoft's thumbprint in the world of entertainment and technology is undeniable, thanks to Microsoft OS and Office Suite, hardware, and Xbox gaming (with the upcoming Xbox Series X/S, for example). But the tech giant is apparently attempting to lessen its carbon footprint as well, as Microsoft is vowing to replenish more water than it consumes by 2030.

As Microsoft only continues to expand, with the acquisition of Bethesda Studios being only the most example of the company's growth, it is looking to combat what it calls a "water crisis" around the world. Microsoft is looking to drastically reduce the amount of water it uses, while also implementing an ambitious replenishment strategy.

Microsoft will be investing in projects like removing impervious asphalt surfaces and wetland restoration. In a statement provided today, the company referenced The World Bank, and notes that water availability in cities could be reduced by 66% by 2050. Microsoft already has other initiatives in place to combat climate change and better the environment, and other organizations and even video game companies have come together to save the planet.

As with our other environmental commitments, we hope these steps will help contribute to a growing movement to address the world’s sustainability needs.

Microsft, and therefore Xbox, is an extremely valuable brand and company. The efforts from the tech giant should not go unnoticed. So much about video games are about bringing people together, and with Xbox's history of services and games based around playing together from all over the world, this is doubly true for Microsoft. To be able to continue to appreciate this hobby, players from all over the globe should be able to have a safe environment to live in and an abundance of resources, like water, to enjoy.
