Famed composer Michael Giacchino is now heading towards a new creative outlet. The composer for The Batman is ostensibly directing Marvel Studios' Werewolf by Night, an upcoming Halloween special for Disney Plus.

Fresh off his work on The Batman, the famed composer appears to be stepping directly behind the camera for his latest superhero project. While Giacchino has worked with Marvel Studios as the score composer for projects like Doctor Strange and Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy, serving as a director on one of the company's Disney Plus projects is a first.

There have been rumors that Giacchino would direct the Werewolf by Night project since February. However, Variety added fuel to the fire by stating that Giacchino was unavailable for an interview for The Batman and "is reportedly off directing a television project for Marvel." The Werewolf by Night special has ostensibly been in development since last August.

Werewolf by Night is a horror comic in the Marvel universe. While the MCU has stayed away from this until now, there's always been monster comics published by the company. Most notable are characters like Venom and Morbius, which Sony Pictures has taken the liberty of adapting. Which offers a great opportunity for the Disney Plus shows, as the medium allows for more experimental properties like WandaVision and Loki. It would be great if Werewolf by Night adds more variety to the MCU, and this seems especially possible now that the TV-MA rated Netflix shows like Daredevil and The Punisher are finding a home on Disney Plus, which adds some much-needed adult content to the platform.

It makes a lot of sense that Marvel Studios would adapt Werewolf by Night, as this comic series was the first appearance for Moon Knight, who is getting a full Disney Plus series starring Oscar Issac. Plus, the decision to make this a Halloween special also adds up, as James Gunn will release a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special this December. Should this strategy work, we should expect much more holiday specials in the Marvel universe, which could be a lot of fun.

Giacchino has directed some short films before, though never anything on this scale. But he's more than proven his talents through countless brilliant film scores, with his most recent work on The Batman possibly being his best. There's a reason why every franchise from Pixar to Star Wars wants to work with this man. If his grasp on directorial work is even half as great as his musical talents, he's sure to be one of the most promising rising directors today. Will Giacchino continue to break new ground in his career? Will Werewolf By Night usher in a new and exciting path for the MCU? Fans are sure to find out much more this Halloween season.

Werewolf by Night is reportedly hitting Disney Plus this October.
