Mia Goth (X, Pearl, Infinity Pool), who recently joined the cast of the widely anticipated Blade reboot, is rumored to be playing a familiar Marvel villain. However, fans are questioning exactly which version of that villain they’ll see in the film.

A reboot of 1998’s Blade adaptation starring Wesley Snipes in the lead role, the new film has been fueling speculation of what audiences should expect. Pre-production for Marvel Studios' Blade is underway, with casting decisions being made and scripts being finalized for a potential 2024 release. Based on the comic of the same name, Blade follows the adventures of a half-human, half-vampire intent on hunting his evil brethren. The reboot, directed by Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country), stars Mahershala Ali (House of Cards) as Blade, with Goth in an as-yet-unannounced role.

According to various outlets, fan boards, and The Hot Mic podcast, rumors have been flying that Goth has been cast as the Marvel character Lilith, of which two versions exist within the Marvel universe. One is the daughter of the famous Dracula, and the other is an evil sorceress that appears in the pages of Ghost Rider. Either variation is equally likely, and many have suggested that Blade may combine aspects of both characters to create Goth's role.

Goth, who has been gathering momentum as one of the brightest stars of horror in the past several years, is coming in hot off the success of Ti West's X franchise, which expects a third film this fall titled Maxxxine, and Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool, where Goth plays an unhinged woman of the social elite involved in bizarre human cloning endeavors. Goth seems a natural fit for an evil sorceress or the daughter of the famous Dracula, so fans are excited about Goth's role. It will likely be memorable and delightfully evil, making her a formidable foil to the famous day-walking dhampir.

Production on Blade has been slow going, with Demange stepping in after the original director Bassam Tariq left before production began, a switch-up that resulted in an entirely new Blade script created by Emmy Award winner Michael Starrbury (When They See Us). While exact details on Goth's role and other familiar characters fans will see have not been confirmed, the internet has many ideas on what would make a Blade reboot a successful addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Blade is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
