The Nargacuga set is one of the more popular and stylish armors in Monster Hunter Rise, even among the sets added in the more recent Title Updates 4 and 5. Regardless of whether it's Low, High, or Master Rank, people love the way this armor looks. But to craft it, Monster Hunter Rise players will need to target specific material drops from the Nargacuga. One such piece is the Nargacuga Marrow which drops from both Low and High-Rank versions of the creature. Nargacuga Marrow is used in several weapons and pieces of armor themed around the insidious Nargacuga. To get access to the High-Rank quests, players will need to work their way through either the Village or Hub Quests until reaching 4-Star hunts. Fortunately, the marrow does drop in Low Rank hunts which makes farming easier for players already tackling High Rank content.

20 Switch RPGs To Play If You Love Skyrim
The Nintendo Switch features a lot of great games and even offers up some awesome RPGs to play if you love the world of Skyrim.
When farming Nargacuga Marrow or any other Monster Hunter crafting component, players truly do need to be patient. It may take several hunts (or more) to get one component to drop, since it's really just a matter of chance and percentages. And if players are trying to craft multiple items, it may take longer than usual to harvest all the resources. And, to add to all that, the Nargacuga is no easy fight either. It's on the long list of Rise monsters that jump around constantly (not quite as much in MH: World) and can do some shocking amounts of damage.
Updated October 1st, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter: Monster Hunter Rise is sadly on the tail-end of its lifespan these days, as Title Update 5 was the last big content drop, and at the time of writing this that was months ago. Nowadays, fans are more eagerly paying attention to things like Monster Hunter Now, any and all rumors of upcoming new MH titles, or even theories about what type of Monster Hunter game the next title could be. That said, there are still a good amount of people playing Rise or even trying it out for the first time. And for that audience, let's go a bit more in-depth on what exactly this highly sought-after resource is, how to get it, and where it's used.
Nargacuga Overview & Weaknesses
The Nargacuga is a monster that's been in the Capcom beloved Monster Hunter games all the back since the days of Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite. In Monster Hunter: Rise and it's big DLC expansion Sunbreak specifically, however, the Nargacuga can be a real handful. At a 6-Star Threal Level, the Nargacuga has a lot in common with other Monsters like Tobi-Kadachi and Barrioth in that it moves fast and can deal out lightning-fast attacks that can take out an unaware player in an instant. In particular, the Nargacuga is very good at seeming like it's easy to deal with, before unleashing a brutal tail attack that instantly carts any player without enough HP or Armor.
Additionally, it can dismantle Pitfall Traps on its own, which is a very rare thing for a non-Elder Dragon-type monster to do. So, players should basically avoid using Pitfall Traps against this beast altogether. Let's go over a few tips for fighting it specifically to help out players who might have to grind out a couple of fights to get its Marrow:
Tip | Explanation |
---|---|
Aim for Weak Spots | Its weakest spots for physical damage, generally, are the Head, Foreleg, Abdomen, Tail, and Tail Tip. |
Use Elemental Weaknesses | Its biggest Elemental Weakness is Thunder, with Fire not far behind. Use these elements and target the same spots as the Weak Spots above, while also including the Cutwing location. |
Cut Off its tail ASAP | The barbed end of its tail can be a big pain to deal with if left alone, so cut it off as quickly as possible. |
Bring Sonic Bombs | Use Sonic Bombs when it seems to be standing still and focusing on its hearing, as this will heavily debilitate it for a brief moment. |
Bring Flash Bombs | Flash Bombs have a higher effect on this monster since it seems to be very dependent on darksight more than anything else. |
Don't Get Tricked By The Spin Attack | It almost always follows up a spin attack using its tail with another delayed spin, so make sure not to Wirebug back in after getting knocked back by the first one. |
Where to Find Nargacuga Marrow
As one would expect, Nargacuga Marrow is obtained from Nargacuga hunting quests, Low-Rank, and High-Rank ones specifically. For the actual percentage and part breakdown, here are the stats:
Low-Rank | High-Rank |
---|---|
Target Reward: 7 Percent | N/A |
Capture Reward: 3 Percent | Capture Reward: 5 Percent |
Body Carve: 7 Percent | Body Carve: 9 Percent |
Tail Carve: 12 Percent | Tail Carve: 13 Percent |
Since Nargacuga Marrow is the same whether the Low or High-Rank version drops it, it seems better overall to farm Low-Rank Nargacuga, but it's entirely up to whatever the Hunter (or Hunters, depending on if they're playing in co-op or not) prefers or what they'll be farming simultaneously alongside the Marrow. If players are attempting to fight a whole bunch of Nargacuga in a row in a 'boss rush' style way of farming, then Low-Rank is probably the route they'll want to use.
Where to Nargacuga Marrow Is Used
Almost every piece of equipment that uses Nargacuga Marrow to craft are weapons, outside of the Low-Rank Nargacuga Braces, of course, which only need 1. As for the Weapons that use this Material, there are:
Weapon Name | Type | Marrow Used |
---|---|---|
Hidden Axe II | Switch Axe | 1 |
Hidden Breaker II | Hammer | 1 |
Hidden Gemini II | Dual Blades | 1 |
Hidden Gunlance II | Gunlance | 1 |
Hidden Harmonic II | Hunting Horn | 2 |
Hidden Scythe II | Insect Glaive | 2 |
Hidden Arsenal II | Charge Blade | 1 |
Hidden Bow II | Bow | 1 |
Hidden Eye II | Light Bowgun | 1 |
Hidden Saber II | Long Sword | 1 |
Hidden Blade II | Great Sword | 2 |
Hidden Edge II | Sword and Shield | 1 |
Hidden Gambit II | Heavy Bowgun | 1 |
Hidden Stinger II | Lance | 1 |
Carrozza Bazooka II | Heavy Bowgun | 1 |
And that's about everything that uses the Nargacuga Marrow, as the Narga Medulla basically acts as its replacement in Master Rank.
