Some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans weren't happy about Mewtwo's updated character model in the games. This comes after the launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's latest Mewtwo Tera Raid Battle.

For September, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet prepared a seven-star Tera Raid boss battle against Mewtwo the Unrivaled. Mewtwo is a Psychic Tera-type Pokemon with the ability to deliver powerful psychic strikes and prevent Pokemon from eating berries using Unnerve. Once beaten, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players will be able to catch the legendary Pokemon to use in their teams. The current Tera Raid will run until September 17, so players will still have time to prep their Pokemon before facing Mewtwo.

With this, some Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players expressed that they weren't fans of Mewtwo's new character model. Reddit user JAMEZV1 said that they liked Mewtwo's old look in Pokemon Sword and Shield better, which sparked a discussion on whether the Pokemon franchise should continue using old designs or update them. A good number of people seemed to agree with the post as they pointed out that Mewtwo's features in Scarlet and Violet looked low-quality compared to Sword and Shield. However, others seemed to like the updated character model because Mewtwo's expression looked more "realistic" and "intimidating," despite the graphical issues that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have faced.

It's no secret that Game Freak has been updating the character models and animations for a number of Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Many fans have previously noticed the changes in Charizard's design, as well as how some Pokemon have been scaled to match their canon size. This could be the developer's way of giving the creatures fresh new looks. In fact, some fans on Reddit noticed the change while playing Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Since launching in November last year, many gamers have had mixed opinions about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet because of their initial issues. Although some have noted that Game Freak was able to address the performance issues, there were others who continued to express that the games could still run smoother. Overall though, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet still gained significant popularity as players invested time in the stories, Pokemon hunting, and Tera Raid events.

Apart from the Mewtwo Tera Raid Battle, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans are also gearing up for the upcoming The Teal Mask DLC, which will introduce new quests and Pokemon. It will also reportedly roll out graphical improvements to the games, so many are excited about that.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
