While there were rumors in 2022 about the game's development, nothing came to fruition until the game was released and in the hands of players. Its fresh visuals and updated control schemes led to the game receiving widespread acclaim. With the original's iconic status in the gaming industry, it's an impressive feat to improve upon the classic.The cool detail was posted on Twitter by Nintendeal, revealing that Metroid Prime Remastered's physical box art is reversible, revealing the Japanese cover art on the other side. The Japanese version is much more simplified, showcasing the game's logo against the black of space, although many players might prefer this. Either way, it's great to give players the option without having to import a copy from Japan. Nintendo has no shortage of games with amazing cover art, and Metroid Prime Remastered seems to have joined that club with this reversible cover.
Physical copies of the game are yet to be released, with the date currently set at February 22 across North America, with a March 3 release across Europe and Japan. While the digital release has sold well, it wasn't completely without controversy. Metroid Prime Remastered left out the developers of the original game from the credits, which caused some of the original developers to respond with disappointment. It remains to be seen if there are any plans to rectify this going forward.
Despite being a huge franchise for years, many fans think the Metroid series has not been used to its full potential in recent times. Other huge Nintendo franchises have seen several new releases across the lifespan of the Nintendo Switch, while Metroid has looked to the past for its last few releases. That approach doesn't seem to be changing any time soon, with rumors suggesting Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the near future. While Metroid Prime 4 was announced in 2017, news on the title has been non-existent for years, so players shouldn't expect to see it released any time soon. But with shadow drops like Metroid Prime Remastered, anything is possible.
