The X-Ray Visor is an upgrade in Metroid Prime Remastered that players will obtain in the Tallon Overworld's Life Grove. When active, this Visor allows Samus to see hidden platforms and through certain materials, and fans will use it to go deeper into the Phazon Mines. That said, players that have collected the X-Ray Visor in Metroid Prime Remastered should first focus on obtaining the Plasma Beam, and this walkthrough will provide a route that can be used to reach it.

To note, the route that is detailed in this walkthrough is not the most direct path to the Plasma Beam, as it looks to guide Metroid Prime Remastered players to several optional upgrades and an Artifact along the way. Fans that are not currently interested in collecting those items should instead follow this path and then skip to the second paragraph of the Magmoor Caverns section that is near the bottom of this walkthrough:

Metroid Prime Remastered: After X-Ray Visor Walkthrough

After picking up the X-Ray Visor, players should equip the Scan Visor and survey the Life Grove. This surveying will reveal that one of the room's walls is weakened, and fans should use a Power Bomb in Metroid Prime Remastered to destroy it. Players should then locate a Morph Ball tunnel that is embedded into a wall outside the Life Grove, roll through it, and continue climbing the platforms that are beyond.

As fans ascend in this area, three Chozo Ghosts will appear. Players should now focus on dispatching those Chozo Ghosts in Metroid Prime Remastered, which is a much simpler endeavor now that the X-Ray Visor has been obtained. Indeed, this Visor makes it possible to damage those irritating enemies at all times, and fans should try it out during this fight.

A Morph Ball hole will open once the Chozo Ghosts have been defeated, and players should use the aforementioned Morph Ball tunnel and platforms to reach it. Fans should then fall through the hole, backtrack to the Great Tree Hall, and jump down to the roots that are below. From this position, players should activate the X-Ray Visor in Metroid Prime Remastered and look up to locate some hidden platforms. These platforms lead to the Great Tree Chamber, a small room that is home to a Missile Expansion.

With the collectible obtained, players should make their way into Transport Tunnel D, which is accessed for the Great Tree Hall, and ultimately ride the Chozo Ruins South elevator. At the end of that ascent, fans should use the Morph Ball tunnel in the nearby Save Station to reach an elevator to Tallon Overworld East.

Tallon Overworld

Players should now work their way through Transport Tunnel C to reach the Overgrown Cavern. Fans will obtain a Missile Expansion as they roll through this hallway, and they will eventually enter the Frigate Crash Site. There is a Missile Expansion underwater in this room, which players can swing to by using Metroid Prime Remastered's Grapple Beam on the Grapple Point nearest to the crashed vessel.

Once players have grabbed that expansion, they should focus their efforts on reaching the Ruined Fountain in the Chozo Ruins. Here is a route that can be taken to that location, and fans may want to make a save in Metroid Prime Remastered along the way:

  • Landing Site -> Tallon Canyon -> Transport to Chozo Ruins West -> Main Plaza -> Ruined Fountain

Chozo Ruins

There is a door next to the fountain in the Ruined Fountain, which players can use to reach the Meditation Fountain. The Magma Pool is beyond that hallway, and fans should use the Grapple Points to navigate to its far side. Here, players will find a wall covered with vines, and they should place a Power Bomb next to it, revealing a Power Bomb Expansion and a Chozo Lore entry, before using Metroid Prime Remastered's Wave Beam to enter Training Chamber Access.

Upon reaching the far end of Training Chamber Access, players will see a tree with red leaves on their left. This tree hides a Morph Ball tunnel, which can be used to reach a Missile Expansion.

Players should now use Training Chamber Access to enter the Training Chamber and then defeat the Chozo Ghosts that they encounter to make two Morph Ball slots appear. Fans can reach these slots by using Metroid Prime Remastered's Boost Ball ability on the Training Chamber's half-pipe, and a Morph Ball Bomb should be inserted into each one. These explosions will cause a Morph Ball lift to become active temporarily, and players should ride it and use the Spider Ball Track to obtain an Energy Tank.

Players should now return to the main area of the Training Chamber and use a nearby Morph Ball tunnel to travel to the Piston Tunnel. This Morph Ball section leads back to the Main Plaza, and players can use a Grapple Point to reach a Missile Expansion that is across the way. From this position, fans should turn around and fire one of Metroid Prime Remastered's Super Missiles at the trunk of the tree that is below to reveal yet another Missile Expansion.

Players should now make their way to the Ruined Shrine, the room where they obtained Metroid Prime Remastered's Morph Ball early in their journeys, and scan for a Sandstone block in the wall. This block can be destroyed with a Morph Ball Bomb, and players that pass through the tunnel that is revealed will have the opportunity to claim a Missile Expansion.

The half-pipe in the Ruined Shrine is the next point of interest, and players should use Boost Ball to reach the top of both sides. On one side, fans will find a tunnel that leads to a Missile Expansion, and on the other they will find a Spider Ball Track. This track should be used to reach Tower of Light Access and the Tower of Light, a tall room that holds two items of interest.

The first of those items is the Wavebuster, an optional upgrade to the Wave Beam that is obtained by reaching the top of the Tower of Light. Fans cannot climb to this upgrade straightaway, though, as they must first use Missiles to destroy weakened sections of the pillars that are around the room's perimeter. Indeed, this destruction will cause the Tower of Light to gradually collapse, allowing players to reach the item.

The other item is the Artifact of Lifegiver, and it is obtained by jumping into the water and using Metroid Prime Remastered's Gravity Suit to reach the nearby Wave Beam door. Unlike the Wavebuster, this item is not optional, and players should absolutely collect it while they are in the area.

Tallon Overworld

It is now time to head back to the Tallon Overworld, by way of the Tallon Overworld North elevator, and visit the Root Cave. For full clarity, this cave is accessed through Tallon Canyon, and players can climb further than ever before with the help of the Grapple Beam. Eventually, fans that climb within the Root Cave will find that they can proceed no further, and they must activate the X-Ray Visor to reveal a series of invisible platforms. These platforms lead to a Missile Expansion, which players should grab before falling to the bottom of the cave and navigating to the Magmoor Caverns East elevator.

Magmoor Caverns

Players should now pass through Transport Tunnel B and the Fiery Shores in order to reach the Shore Tunnel. Fans should then place a Power Bomb in the center of the metal tunnel that they encounter. This explosion will make it possible for players to get under the tunnel and pick up the Ice Spreader, an optional upgrade for Metroid Prime Remastered's Ice Beam.

At this point, players can finally set their sights on collecting the next requisite item. First, Metroid fans should backtrack until they reach the Geothermal Cave. Upon entering this room, players should cross to the side closest to the South Core Tunnel, climb the nearby rock formation, and use the Grapple Point over the lava pool to swing to the circular platform that is ahead.

There is a Morph Ball slot on this platform, and players should repeatedly Boost Ball within it to raise a portion of the platform. Fans of Metroid games should then jump to the next platform and repeat this process in its Morph Ball slot. This process must then be repeated one more time on a third platform to gain access to a Spider Ball Track that can be used to continue climbing.

Once players reach the top of the track, they should jump across to the highest platform and place a Morph Ball Bomb inside its Morph Ball slot. This will cause an intricate Spiders Ball Track to be revealed, and fans can access it from a nearby pipe. After using Metroid Prime Remastered's Spider Ball ability to reach the end of this track, players will find a door that is blocked by debris, and they should clear it with a Power Bomb and enter Plasma Processing to collect the Plasma Beam.

Metroid Prime Remastered is available on the Nintendo Switch.
