Players just starting out in Metroid Dread will likely see a ton of things they cannot yet interact with, which can cause a bit of sensory overload for some. However, try to not get stressed about things that cannot be done, as the only way forward in this exploration-heavy space adventure is to find more and more upgrades that will allow Samus to scale any obstacle.

The Blue Walls that appear in Metroid Dread will become climbable surfaces after a certain point in the game, and will in fact be able to assist players throughout the entire game. It should also be mentioned that there are multiple ways to interact with Blue Walls using different tools, so don't forget to check out what each upgrade does.

What Blue Walls Do

Blue Walls will become climbable surfaces after players pick up the Spider Magnet upgrade. The Spider Magnet upgrade that grants the potential to climb Blue Walls is obtained after players defeat the E.M.M.I robot in Artaria. Players can even use the Spider Magnet to crawl across ceilings that also are covered in the same blue magnetic field.

Since climbing these walls can be a bit slow, players wishing to move a bit faster can jump up the sides of them easily for swifter movement. The Spider Magnet works automatically, so all Samus needs to do to interact with them is to simply touch a Blue Wall or Blue Ceiling. This results in gamers being able to scale Blue Walls in a fast manner by repeatedly wall-jumping against them while ascending--just don't try this with Blue Ceilings unless one wants to take a fall. Even without fall damage, losing climbing progress can be annoying, so try to avoid such situations.

How To Interact With Blue Walls By Using Other Upgrades

In addition to the Spider Magnet that lets one latch onto Blue Walls, the Grapple Beam can also be used to interact with Blue Walls and Blue Ceilings for efficient traveling methods around Planet ZDR. The hook end of the Grapple Beam possesses the same magnetic feature as the Spider Magnet, which lets players use the Grapple Beam as a quick way to pull themselves onto a Blue Wall or a Blue Ceiling. As such, it can be used to reach these types of surfaces from farther away and will be handy in many climbing puzzles throughout the game.

Metroid Dread is available on the Nintendo Switch.
