One Twitter user, known as TheNCSmaster, commented, “Did not expect that!” While others noted that this gave those on the fence about purchasing the regularly $60 game a chance to test it out for free. In addition, Nintendo of America revealed that the demo is available now. All players need to do in order to access the demo is log into the Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch.

This is surprising news for many fans as Metroid Dread has been a highly anticipated title from Nintendo. As the first new Metroid game to release for the Nintendo Switch, it utilizes the improved hardware of the hybrid system to let players control Samus at a smooth 60fps. Furthermore, the game contains a brand new story featuring Samus Aran as she attempts to take down a new robotic threat on Planet ZDR.

This news regarding a free demo comes as the game has already been a financial success for Nintendo. Only a couple of days after release, Metroid Dread broke a sales record, having the highest-grossing launch in the history of the franchise. It will be interesting to see how this new demo impacts sales figures moving forward. Regardless, this demo will give more fans the opportunity to check out this well-reviewed Metroid game for themselves.

In addition to this demo for Metroid Dread, Nintendo has offered many other demos for games. Over the past year, the Nintendo eShop has featured demos for titles, such as Monster Hunter Rise, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, Yoshi’s Crafted World, and Pikmin 3. With Nintendo releasing a demo for Metroid Dread, a game that still retails for $60, it seems like any game published by the company could receive a demo version in the future.
