Konami today confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 will release on October 24, in addition to detailing the upcoming bundle's bonus features. The information was shared as part of the June 21 Nintendo Direct which also saw two classic GameCube games shadow-drop for the Switch, among over two dozen other announcements.

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set was first unveiled at the latest PlayStation Showcase, with Konami originally saying that the bundle is only coming to PC and the current-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft. However, its appearance at today's Nintendo Direct confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is also slated to release for the Switch come late October.

Additionally, the brief trailer featured during the June 21 broadcast provided an overview of the bundle's many bonus features. The highlights from this list of extra content include a NES port of Metal Gear—not to be confused with the significantly different MSX original that's also part of the collection—and Snake's Revenge. Both of those titles were developed without Hideo Kojima's involvement and are hence marketed as bonus content instead of joining the five mainline games from Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1. In fact, the 1987 NES port ended up being so different that Kojima publicly denounced it back in 2001 as not being up to his standards, so it's an interesting bit of history to experience.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Bonus Content

  • Metal Gear (SNES port)
  • Snake's Revenge
  • Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Digital Graphic Novel
  • Metal Gear Solid: Digital Soundtrack
  • Digital screenplay books for MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2, and MGS3
  • Digital master books for MG, MG2, MGS, MGS2, and MGS3

The upcoming collection will also include Metal Gear Solid's Digital Graphic Novel and its sequel, a pair of interactive comic books originally released for the PSP back in 2006. Additionally, each of the five included mainline titles will be paired with a digital screenplay book containing all in-game dialogue, character briefing files, and Codec call scripts. Five digital master books are part of the package, as well, offering strategy guide content, key character quotes, and other information about Kojima's first five Metal Gear games.

Finally, the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 will ship with an abridged digital soundtrack containing 20 iconic tracks from the long-running series. The list of recordings includes fan-favorites such as Theme of Solid Snake and Snake Eater by Cynthia Harrell.

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 set will be followed by MGS Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of MGS3 that's still without a release date but could end up hitting the market as early as 2024. Beyond that, Konami already confirmed it's open to remaking more Metal Gear games.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 launches October 24 on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
