The recently announced Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 has confirmed a major drawback for players looking to pick up the compilation on PC: no mouse and keyboard controls. Konami would officially announce the newest collection from the beloved stealth action franchise late last month during Sony's May PlayStation Showcase event. The new compilation was confirmed to contain each title from the game's original trilogy, alongside the confirmation of a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Now, as fans are learning more about the upcoming collection, a significant feature will not be present in the PC version. While Konami announced the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid compilation in May, the June Nintendo Direct would not only reveal its arrival to Switch but bonus features for the collection as well. Konami's segment during the Nintendo broadcast would reveal both of the franchise's original MSX and NES titles from the late 1980s and early 1990s for the collection. The compilation is also set to include several digital artbooks and graphic novels from the franchise as well. However, one important gameplay feature will reportedly be missing from Metal Gear Solid Master Collection's PC version.RELATED: Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Confirms Bonus Features and Release DateThe official Steam listing for the three titles included in the compilation has revealed a major fault with the Metal Gear Solid PC versions. While erroneous early listings hinted the game would only support controllers, many fans had hoped the subsequent removal would address the issue. However, the recent re-listing of the games would officially confirm the three Metal Gear Solid games lack keyboard-and-mouse control schemes. While each game originated as a console game on the PS2, the lack of keyboard-and-mouse controls with the remasters have led many fans to call into question the quality of the new versions.

While the Metal Gear Solid compilation is sure to excite many fans of the franchise, others have levied criticisms against the contents of the collection. The compilation will notably not include two of the franchise's less accessible games in Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Neither game has been made available on modern platforms.

The reveal of the newest Metal Gear Solid compilation and the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake comes after the franchise had fallen mostly dormant. Konami has only released one new Metal Gear game since Hideo Kojima's departure in 2015, with 2018's Metal Gear Survive met with largely mixed to negative reception. Survive received heavy criticism for its shift from the franchise's standard gameplay and the "generic" theming of the new Metal Gear game. Fans of Metal Gear can only hope the upcoming compilation and remake will help to bring the Metal Gear franchise back to its roots.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 will release on October 24th for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
