A new trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the highly anticipated remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, shows off Naked Snake in action with a montage of gripping stealth and combat gameplay. The original Metal Gear Solid 3 is the first chronological entry in the Metal Gear franchise, covering the future Big Boss’s mission to sabotage a Soviet super weapon during the Cold War. It is considered by many to be not only the best game in the series, but one of the greatest video games ever made.

Last year, Konami announced a current-gen remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater during a PlayStation State of Play livestream, featuring Naked Snake himself sneaking through a dark jungle in an Unreal Engine 5-rendered cinematic. Since then, a few details have come forward, namely that fan-favorite Snake actor David Hayter will reprise his role through reused audio from the original game, but there is currently no official release date confirmed aside from rumors that it might be delayed until 2025.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project are very different beasts, but they could end up sharing one common factor.

Last week, insiders believed that Metal Gear Solid Delta could see an announcement soon - and now that has come to pass during the recent Xbox Games Showcase 2024 livestream. A trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta was shown at the event, starting with Naked Snake being escorted to the site of his latest mission while being briefed on how he will need to use stealth to avoid being spotted by the enemy. His commanding officer also explains the meaning behind his codename - Snake will start out with no weapons or equipment, being essentially “naked.”

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Shows Off Stealth And Combat In New Trailer

This doesn’t seem to be much of a problem for Metal Gear Solid's future Big Boss once he is airdropped into the jungle, as the latest Metal Gear Solid Delta trailer goes on to show him sneaking past hostile forces in a gameplay montage. Snake takes cover behind trees and other natural obstructions, crawls on the ground, climbs along the edge of a rope bridge to avoid being spotted, and even uses some kind of headgear resembling a crocodile to hide in the water as an enemy drone walks by. Snake will also need to hunt animals for food, just like he did in the original Metal Gear Solid 3.

The Metal Gear Solid Delta trailer also showed Naked Snake in combat. He uses takedown moves like judo tosses to make short work of his enemies up close, and eliminates a patrolling guard from a distance with a sniper rifle. Using his trusty knife, Snake can interrogate foes for information or simply mow enemies down with a Gatling gun. Towards the end, he even takes down a helicopter using a rocket launcher before being confronted by The Boss, his old mentor.

From there the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater logo appears, before one last scene of Naked Snake reading his silencer pistol and declaring that he is “commencing the Virtuous Mission.” The Xbox Games Showcase Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater trailer stops short of giving players a release date, but it looks like the remake will retain everything fans loved about Snake’s original trek through the Soviet-controlled jungles of 1964.
