  • The delay may disappoint fans, but extra time could ensure a high-quality release for the Snake Eater remake.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of the 2004 hit Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, may have been delayed to 2025. As confirmed previously by Konami, the forthcoming remake is essentially Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater built from scratch for current-gen consoles and stays true to the original game.

Back in 2023, Konami surprised fans by announcing Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The stealth game, built on Unreal Engine 5, will put players in the shoes of Naked Snake as he sets out on a mission against the backdrop of the Cold War. Chronologically the first Metal Gear game, Snake Eater tells the story of how a super soldier went on to become the legendary Big Boss that fans have come to know over the span of the series.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project are very different beasts, but they could end up sharing one common factor.

According to industry watcher Billbil-kun (via Dealabs), Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater could release in 2025, a year later than the 2024 release previously stated by Sony. The source mentions that the new launch window was derived from the records of a global distribution firm that used a placeholder release date, "12/31/2025," for the launch of the game's physical copies. Moreover, the leaker revealed that fans could get an update on the Snake Eater remake as soon as June 6, with pre-orders starting right after the announcement.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Release Reportedly Postponed

Despite PlayStation's "Upcoming Games in 2024" trailer featuring Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater as one of the big PS5 games launching this year, the latest report indicates that this may no longer be the plan. Alongside the 2025 release window, Billbil-kun shared that the game will roll out as two different editions, namely the Standard Edition worth 69.99 USD and the Collector's Edition worth 199.99 USD.

With developer Konami recently announcing the different editions of the Silent Hill 2 remake, it would be consistent for the Japan-based company to take a similar approach with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. However, there's no news on what the Snake Eater remake's Collector's Edition may offer besides the base game.

If the rumor of the delay is true, it may upset Metal Gear fans who have been waiting to play another major title in the series for several years. However, at the same time, the additional time provided could ensure Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater rolls out in the best possible shape and rightly rewards the fans' patience. Meanwhile, fans can hold out for another Konami classic built from the ground-up, with Silent Hill 2 dropping later this year.
