Konami confirms that its development team for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will consist of its own staff and those at Virtuos. Earlier this week, Sony’s PlayStation Showcase revealed a number of exciting and new projects that will be coming to the console. This includes highly anticipated games like Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2, complete with gameplay footage. One of the most surprising reveals of the presentation was the reveal of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the seminal PS2 classic, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. There were plenty of rumors regarding a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake since at least 2021, with many leaks and other details pointing towards its development. The PlayStation showcase finally confirmed to fans that Konami was indeed working on such a project and that the rumored MGS3 remake was real. What was shown at the event was a CG-only teaser trailer, which incorporated familiar elements of the classic game such as the jungle environment and Naked Snake himself. After the game’s reveal, Konami has confirmed who is working on this project.RELATED: Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Will Retain Original Voice CastThis statement was given to Ethan Gach of Kotaku on Twitter, who asked a Konami spokesperson who the development team for this remake was. This spokesperson confirmed that it will be some of Konami’s own development team working together with support from acclaimed porting studio Virtuosi. There was previously evidence for this last year, where Virtuos’ official website had listed Konami as one of its clients.

Virtuos’ previous work includes the ports of Final Fantasy 10 and 10-2 for PS3 and Vita, the NieR Automata Nintendo Switch port, the Batman: Return to Arkham port to PS4, and even assisting with the Demon’s Souls remake for PS5. With Virtuos’ track record, it’s a strong profile to help Konami in remaking MGS3.

Alongside the MGS3 remake, Konami also announced the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1 on several platforms, including PS5. This collection will contain not only the first three Metal Gear Solid titles, but also the first two classic MSX games as well. According to a recent PlayStation Store listing, these remasters of MGS2 and MGS3 are based on the HD Collection versions. These were previously developed by Bluepoint Games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports. At this time it’s unknown if Bluepoint is assisting with this collection or if Virtuos was contracted to help bring the former’s work to these new platforms.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
