The Metal Gear games always get right the engaging and challenging boss fights, which people can tackle through multiple ways to claim victory. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is no exception to this rule, and has some of the best boss fights in Metal Gear.

The boss fights in Metal GearSolid3 are one of the many factors that cement the game as iconic. It’s no wonder that this Metal GearSolid title was chosen for the remake treatment, and fans are hoping that the hardest boss fights in Metal GearSolid3 are also featured.

9 The Sorrow

MGS3 The Sorrow from Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater

As Snake traverses through an endless river, he is met with the spirit of The Sorrow within the spiritual realm. Upon this river, Snake would witness every person he had killed during his mission in Tselinoyarsk. Snake would face the wrath of his murders, soldiers, scientists, and Cobra Unit members in this chilling and guilt-tripping boss fight.

There is no way for Snake to attack The Sorrow, and Snake needs to simply persist through the endless river to reach the end where he will wake from the spiritual realm, haunted by The Sorrow’s words and their meaning. This boss fight is not difficult, as it is less of a boss fight and more of a walking segment.

8 The Pain

the pain boss fight

The Pain is the second boss that players will encounter in Metal GearSolid3. This boss could control swarms of stinger hornets, which may seem threatening at first until players quickly learn how to counter them through a variety of methods.

When The Pain decides to shoot out his killer bees, players can hide underwater, or use CQC with a torch to kill the hornets. When The Pain is vulnerable, players need to shoot him in the head with their accuracy and rinse and repeat until it is done.

7 The Shagohod

With infinite ammo in a rocket launcher and an on-rails section of the game, players will have an easy time with the Shagohod. The chase is exhilarating, but it is not a hard challenge, considering players just need to keep their aim at the trucks of soldiers and the Shagohod until their health is completely drained.

There’s not a lot of room for versatility in this fight. Players will be countering missiles with their weapons, destroying vehicles, and eating away at the Shagohod’s health with their missile launcher, all whilst claiming ammo from their driver, Eva.

6 The Fear

the fear boss fight

One of the first members of the Cobra Unit to attack Snake is The Fear, a leapfrogging, tree-jumping, poisonous member of the violent unit. Players need a keen eye and a great set of ears to find where The Fear is hiding, especially when he shoots stealthy poison darts that can slowly eat away at Snake’s health.

Despite the stealth abilities, The Fear is a fairly easy boss fight when players figure out just how to take him out. The Fear can run into the traps that lurk in the combat arena, and he will also be susceptible to stun grenades and the bullet fire of an AK-47 if players lure The Fear closer with the fake death pill. The Fear utilizes many of the game’s mechanics to make for a versatile and easy boss fight.

5 The Boss

Master versus apprentice, by the time Snake faces off against his mentor The Boss, he will have to put aside his emotions for the fate of humanity and war. The Boss is the final boss fight in Metal GearSolid3, and players should have learned to master the game at this point to truly combat The Boss in this beautiful flower-filled arena.

The Boss’ main fight mainly comes down to CQC dueling, with the ability for Snake and The Boss to sneak up on each other for takedown moves thanks to the heavy and camouflaged fields of flowers. This climactic fight against The Boss can be a challenge, especially if players have not mastered the art of stealth.

4 Ocelot

Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater Ocelot

The first boss fight players will encounter in Metal GearSolid3 is the fated and greatest ally of Big Boss, Ocelot. Ocelot is a lot of fun in Metal GearSolid3, and his enthusiastic youth and combat inexperience make him a great character in Metal GearSolid3, especially in the boss fight which has Ocelot showing off his revolver flair.

As the first boss fight, players might find the new experience somewhat challenging, especially when they wouldn’t have mastered plenty of the mechanics for the game at this point. However, the boss fight can be made easy if players should the hornet nests above Ocelot, or even challenge him to a pistol duel.

3 Volgin

Colonel Volgin closeup before the first boss fight

Volgin is electrifying, both personality-wise with toxic and villainous traits, and with his literal powers. The boss fight with Volgin has Snake and Volgin in an arena, much like a boxing ring where Volgin will punch and shoot Snake with electric fists. Snake will have a harder time battling Volgin due to the lack of freedom he has with his movement.

The boss fights with Volgin are quite the challenge because players are actually on a countdown to their impending doom. Snake will even have Ocelot cheering him like a cheerleader, and Snake can engage in a CQC fight with Volgin, which is perfect thanks to the small arena.

2 The Fury

the fury boss fight

The boss room with The Fury begins with a great cutscene. The fight is an open maze of corridors and turnings, where players are led through dark and captivating rooms as The Fury jetpacks his way through them with a lust of fire following in his wake. The Fury has his name for a reason, as the arena can be engulfed in flame if players are not careful.

Luckily, there are a few ways players can counter this boss, and perhaps the most important is knowing that shooting the red pipes will allow water to put out the fires that block certain paths, as well as save Snake from burning. The Fury has many counters, so it’s best to experiment to win in this fight.

1 The End

Metal Gear Cathartic Moments- The End

One of the best boss fights in all of gaming, The End is memorable for many reasons, including its difficulty. Snake will face off against an ancient sniper who has seen decades of combat. The End is brilliant at taking his shots, as well as hiding in plain sight. This boss fight is one where the hunter becomes hunted, and endurance is key to victory.

Players can kill The End in a few different ways. They can either kill him before the boss fight begins or use the time to their advantage. Yet, if players want to honor The End with the fight he deserves, then they can track his movements, or even use his parrot against him to make this duel of hunters a memorable one.
