As many expected, Konami's decision to continue Hideo Kojima's stealth-action series without him by putting out Metal Gear Survive was a big disappointment for the myriad fans of the long-running franchise. And while it looks as if the Metal Gear Solid brand will never be the same without Kojima-san directing, fans can at least take comfort in the fact that all of the series' sequels can still be enjoyed. As a matter of fact, the high definition iteration for both the second and third numbered entries have now been added to the Xbox One's backward compatibility library.

As indicated the tweet below, the HD editions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater can now be played on the Xbox One via backward compatibility, but of course, one must own the titles first. For those who have the original discs, simply insert them one at a time to let the console begin downloading the games to the system's hard drive, and keep it in afterward to play it. Digital owners of the games will notice that the titles should show up in the "Ready to Install" section.

For those who wish to play both Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3's HD editions, but don't own the title, they luckily won't have to break the bank to enjoy what many consider to be two of the best entries in the series. As of now, the titles are available together in a bundle in the Xbox Live Marketplace, with the item priced at $20–a great deal for anyone (particularly newcomers) looking to get into the franchise.

Taking all of this into consideration, the addition of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3's HD versions to Xbox One's backward compatibility library makes it so that there are no only two games from the series not playable on Xbox. As it so happens, the original Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 4 both remain exclusive to PlayStation systems, but it's great to see that Xbox fans are getting the chance to play two stellar entries from the series on Microsoft's current generation console.
