Details regarding the Meta Quest 3 are beginning to become public, and the latest reveals indicate that the Meta Quest 3 will be much more powerful than the Meta Quest 2. The new device sounds as though it's addressing many of the issues users of the older Meta Quests have had with the devices, which should please virtual reality enthusiasts.

Right now, most of the attention being paid to virtual reality is due to the PS VR 2's recent release. While the new PlayStation-branded headset is expensive, it packs some unique features, like the ability to track what the PS VR 2 user's eyes are doing. The Meta Quest's strength has always been its ability to provide a virtual reality experience wirelessly, while the PS VR 2 relies on the PS5 to do the heavy lifting.

Now, Meta is discussing its upcoming VR and AR projects, and the Meta Quest 3 is packing new features and should be more comfortable, too. A roadmap presentation with Meta’s Reality Labs division went into the Meta Quest 3 in some detail, indicating that the Meta Quest 3 will be "at least" twice as powerful as the Meta Quest 2. This may mean that more recent VR games that relied on a computer or console could be playable natively on the device. 41 new apps and games are slated to be made available for the VR headset.

In addition to the extra power, the new device is going to be equipped with front-facing cameras, which will create mixed reality experiences. Meta wants its users to be able to comfortably wear the headset for hours, which will be made easier by the ability to see what's going on around the user without having to take the headset off. This initiative will also see a new version of the Meta Quest boundary guardian introduced, which should help users to get around with the headset on. In this same vein, the headset is two times thinner than the Meta Quest 2, which should make it much more comfortable for long gaming sessions.

However, all of this does come with a caveat. Meta has explained that the new device will be "a bit more" expensive than the Quest 2, which starts at $399.99. Interested users weren't thrilled when Meta increased the price of the Quest 2, but a new device that can do more and feels more enjoyable to use might convince VR enthusiasts that the Meta Quest 3 is worth their money.
