Highlights

  • PS VR2 excels with titles like Call of the Mountain & Resident Evil despite some limitations.
  • Call of the Mountain showcases stunning visuals & memorable VR moments on PS VR2.
  • Quest 3 lacks standout games like PS VR2's titles, leaving it vulnerable as PS VR2 expands to PC.

Recent reports suggest that the PS VR2 hasn't been selling too well, but that doesn't mean it isn't an impressive headset. Its technology makes it one of the best headsets available on the market, allowing it to compete with other headsets such as the Meta Quest 3. Most importantly, it has some impressive titles.

The Resident Evil VR modes are enough to justify the purchase of the PS VR2, but it also has Horizon: Call of the Mountain as the cherry on top. The title is a system seller, illustrating what the headset is capable of when it is at its best. The Meta Quest 3 is in desperate need of a similar title, as there currently isn't much available on it that has the same wow factor.

PS VR2 Update is Good News for PlayStation Gamers

Updates regarding the PlayStation VR2 can be excellent for PlayStation players and even change the situation for the VR platform.

The PS VR2 and Call of the Mountain

Call of the Mountain is a VR spin-off title from the highly successful Horizon franchise by Guerrilla Games. It follows the story of Ryas, who seeks redemption while searching for his brother, Urid. Most of the game involves climbing to terrifying heights and enjoying the gorgeous views, though there are plenty of action sequences against the Machines to ensure players are kept on their toes. It is a visual marvel which starts off with what feels like a safari ride down a stream, showcasing the graphical power of the headset.

Granted, the PS VR2 has its limitations. It's clunky, heavy, expensive, and it can only be used on the PS5 right now. Still, all of this can be forgiven for the Call of the Mountain experience, which offers some of the most memorable VR moments.

Other PS VR2 Must-Play Titles

The Resident Evil VR modes offer some of the most adrenaline-raising moments possible in VR. They're relentlessly terrifying and look gorgeous enough to completely immerse players. Gran Turismo 7 is essential for car enthusiasts, while Before Your Eyes is a tear-jerker that makes creative use of the headset's eye-tracking abilities. Even beyond these, there's a whole library of games for PS VR2 users to explore.

Quest 3 Needs Some Must-Play Titles

How to Charge Meta Quest 3 Controllers

The Quest 3 has a lot going for it. It's ability to function as a standalone device makes it an intriguing piece of tech. In addition to gaming, it can be used for productivity via apps such as Virtual Desktop. It is also the superior device when it comes to media, as it's able to play 3D movies and stream from YouTube VR.

What the Quest 3 is missing, however, are groundbreaking games. There are fun enough titles, such as Stranger Things: VR and Titanic, but it lacks its own 'Call of the Mountain' to really make it stand out. Until then, players should consider looking elsewhere if they're searching for a premium headset.

Competition is About to Get Tighter for the Quest 3

The PS VR2 will be making the leap to PC soon, according to Sony. This could vastly expand its library, making it the superior option if one has to pick a headset. This only puts the pressure on the Quest 3 with its disappointingly small library.
