While many comedies from the 1990s are full of memorable slang, particularly the 1995 film Clueless starring Alicia Silverstone as the ditzy teenage girl Cher Horowitz, horror movies from this time period have just as many quotes that are hard to forget. Whether Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is talking to Ghostface (Stu Macher played by Matthew Lillard and Billy Loomis played by Skeet Ulrich) in Scream or high school witches are casting spells in The Craft, there are several lines that come to mind.

When looking back on '90s horror movies, these are some of the greatest quotes, and even just reading them will make fans of the genre want to rewatch these films once again.

Pennywise's Famous "You'll Float Too" Line In It (1990)

"They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!"

evil clown Pennywise

Several people are afraid of clowns, and Pennywise, the monster who appears as an evil clown in Stephen King's IT, is one freaky example. Pennywise tells kids that they will float down in the sewers of Derry, Maine and is just as terrifying in the IT remakes split into two chapters as in the 1990 miniseries.

When horror fans think about the story of the Losers Club and the bullying that they have faced, they always picture Pennywise talking about floating. The children who Pennywise has taken float in the sewers, a horrible image that is tough to forget.

Annie Shares With Paul That She's A Fan In Misery (1990)

"I'm your number one fan. There's nothing to worry about. You're going to be just fine. I will take good care of you. I'm your number one fan."

Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes in Misery

Misery is the best Stephen King adaptation for many reasons, and Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates) is an impressive superfan of Paul Sheldon (James Caan). Since the movie is about King imagining what would happen if a writer's biggest fan kidnapped them and tortured them, it makes sense that the most memorable quote is when Annie explains to James that she loves his books.

Annie's declaration that she adores James and so of course nothing bad will happen to him while he's in her home is incredibly alarming. This quote sticks out as fans know that Annie hurts James and almost kills him.

Ghostface Asks Casey A Question In Scream (1996)

"What's your favorite scary movie?"

Drew Barrymore as Casey talks on the phone in Scream

Casey Becker's (Drew Barrymore) conversation with Ghostface in the 1996 Scream movie is likely one that fans can recite by heart. When she's asked about horror movies, she shares that she knows a lot, but makes a mistake when she says that Jason Voorhees and not his mother is the villain in the first Friday the 13th film.

While the Scream movies aren't that scary, the first scene in the 1996 film definitely is, as Ghostface murders Casey in such a dark and absolutely brutal way. Scream fans absolutely remember when Ghostface asks Casey what her favorite horror film is and she says Halloween (1978), "the one with the guy in the white mask who walks around and stalks babysitters." This question sets up the whole franchise and lets fans know that this will be an unnerving experience.

Natalie Explains The Horrors In Urban Legend (1998)

"Someone's taking all of these urban legends, and making them reality."

It's memorable when a character will explain the theme or message of a movie, and that's exactly what Natalie Simon (Alicia Witt) does in Urban Legend. The '90s horror movie takes on classic urban legends and Natalie realizes that the killer is turning fiction or lore into real life.

The movie might have a few dull characters and there might be several horror films that take place on college campuses, but fans likely remember Natalie's quote as she's the first person to figure out the mystery behind all of these wild deaths. While not too many quotes in this film will stick out to fans, this one is gold.

Cole Sees Dead People In The Sixth Sense (1999)

"I see dead people."

Haley Joel Osment as Cole and Bruce Willis as Malcolm walking outside together in The Sixth Sense

Out of all of the '90s movie plot twists, learning that Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) is dead is up there. Another memorable scene from the movie is when Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) says, "I see dead people." Malcolm asks, "In your dreams?" and "While you're awake" and Cole shakes his head to both things. Cole then explains, "Walking around like regular people. They don't see each other. They only see what they want to see. They don't know they're dead."

The Sixth Sense is a unique ghost story and Cole's quote is one that all horror fans remember. Cole sounds so matter-so-fact yet emotional, and Malcolm realizes how much pain Cole has been dealing with.
