Things have not been going well for Capcom as of late. About two weeks ago, Capcom was targeted in a ransomware attack, and ever since the company has struggled to contain the damage as details about possible new projects in popular franchises like Mega Man have leaked online.

The attack compromised at least a terrabyte of data from servers at Capcom's headquarters in Japan. This included information about upcoming games as well as personal employee information. Capcom is working with police to try and mitigate the issues and ensure the safety of its employees. While this isn't great for the developer, it has provided a lot of exciting info for players. This includes a sizable list of potentially upcoming titles, including a new Mega Man game called Rockman Match.

The Mega Man title appears as part of a second wave of info released after the ransomware attack, in a spreadsheet posted to Resetera. Capcom provided a statement about the hack that outlined its steps to deal with the problem, but this new info indicates it isn't over yet. The project is referred to as Rockman Match, Rockman being Mega Man's Japanese title, seems to be slated for release in the third quarter of 2022. As of this writing, no further information about the project is available.

A name like Mega Man Match doesn't reveal much about what the title could be, so there is a lot of room for speculation. One option could be a remake or collection of titles. Another part of the leak indicates an Ace Attorney collection is in development, so Mega Man getting the same treatment would not be surprising.

However, given how many recent re-releases and collections have been made for series like Mega Man X, the most exciting possibility would be some sort of new Mega Man game, perhaps in one of the established series. With Dragon's Dogma 2 also leaked to be potentially on the horizon, there's a real possibility that Mega Man Match could be a new entry in an existing Mega Man series.

Another possibility is that this could be an entirely new type of Mega Man game. The "Match" part of the name might suggest a match-three game like Candy Crush. Part of the Capcom leak also indicates a new Onimusha game is in the works, despite the fact it's a series previously thought to be shelved. At this point, anything could be possible, but fans should wait for official confirmation from Capcom before throwing their eggs in the Mega Man basket.
