One of Medieval Dynasty's greatest selling points is the fantasy of being able to head out and settle down on virgin land surrounded by fresh air and natural beauty. With all those acres available in the Valley and the Oxbow, deciding where to put down roots can be tricky (if only because of the sheer amount of choice available).

Medieval Dynasty: Tips On Finding Food For Villagers

Survival is hard in the middle ages, but if players can find food, their Medieval Dynasty can flourish.

Of course, players are free to start building just about anywhere, and while there isn't necessarily a bad locale to pick, specific locations come with exceptional advantages over other places. Whether it's for a pristine view, an abundance of resources, the optimum spot for wealth creation, or the place with the most flat land, these spots are sure to serve any budding dynasty well for generations.

6 The Valley - West Of Gostovia

The Ideal Quick-Start Location

west of gustovia medieval dynasty
  • Near the starting area with clay, reeds, and a source of water
  • A waggoner and other services can be found in nearby Gostovia

Anyone looking to get a quick start in Medieval Dynasty will find this location helpful. It is located just west of the very first town in the game. Players can get a good view of the land from the spawn point as they go down the hill to speak to the custodian. The land is flat and spacious, next to a river primed for fishing and water gathering.

Being so close to Gostovia has its benefits. Vendors who have valuable items to sell (and who barter with the player for their goods) can be found there, as well as a waggoner, who can be commissioned for fast travel services. There are clay deposits and plenty of reeds (used for collecting straw). The only feature this area lacks is a cave or mine. The nearest one can be found south of the mountains north of Baranica.

5 The Valley - South Of Branica

An Expansive Riverside Area Filled With Resources

south of branica-1
  • Once cleared of trees, this area offers expansive space to set up a town or even a city
  • While resources are plentiful, rocks and slopes can make it tricky to set certain buildings up

This one is a real fixer-upper (or a dream for loggers who love smashing axes into trees). This riverside area is thick with a forest that will need logging before any structures can be put up, which, on the bright side, means easy wood to get started. Being so close to a river has its advantages, including access to fish, water, and an ample supply of stones. Speaking of which, many larger unmovable rocks can make some placements tricky, but it's not a dealbreaker in any way.

However, one thing to consider is that the land can get a little steep the further away the player gets from the water, making it more challenging to build that important crop-producing farmland or structures with stone foundations. Buildings on stilts will go up just fine, but it is important to know this limitation before cutting down all those trees. Additional advantages to this area include a wealth of nearby clay, plenty of reed (for straw), three towns to the north, and a nearby mine.

4 The Valley - The Lake East Of Hornica

For A Beautifully Secluded Homestead With A Lakeside View

hornica lake medieval dynasty-1
  • Offers some of the prettiest views in the Valley!
  • Far enough away from other towns but not so isolated as to be a pain to trade or haul resources

The dream of setting up in total seclusion and developing into a large village or city can be compelling for many players of survival dynasty games. However, any player who has tried this for themselves in Medieval Dynasty will know that for one reason or another (usually trading or some early-game villager recruitment), a trip to town becomes necessary from time to time.

This location is right in the sweet spot between the wild outdoors and the convenience offered by civilization. The lake east of Hornica provides some of the most picturesque views in the game. Of course, there's an accessible supply of water, wood, and clay, and there is even a cave nearby to the southeast, which can be turned into a mine. Hornica, with all its vendors and services, is only a short trip away on foot.

3 The Oxbow - East of Klonica

The Perfect Spot For An Island Overlook

oxbow east of klonica medieval dynasty
  • To the north is an island flush with huntable creatures (and, depending on the player's moral disposition, human prey)
  • The area is cozily situated behind a small lip of rock with a resource-rich cave

This Oxbow area is a no-brainer for players looking to expand far and wide. To the north is a small island teaming with moose, berries, crate loot, and plenty of huntable critters. Just be mindful that wild animals will leave if the town is built too close to their territory. Bandits tend to spawn on the island's south shore, and wolves will make their way out of the swamp to the west, so beware.

Best of all, a small cliff shelters the lakeside area, complete with an enigmatic cave just waiting to be turned into a profitable mine, making it feel nice and secluded. The first towns the player will see are just to the south, but a mount is still recommended for anyone looking to make the journey regularly.

2 The Oxbow - Southwest of Ostoya

A Spacious Area With An Eyecatching Feature

oxbow south west of ostoya medieval dynasty
  • A plot that boasts an impressive waterfall feature!
  • This area is rich with game and resources, as well as the oxbow that gives the area its name

For those who worry that their virtual peasant-dom may turn out dingy, dirty-looking, or just downright depressing, this majestic lot might offer a spark of inspiration that will not only allow the player's villagers to avoid starvation but also avoid starvation in awe, thanks to an impressive nearby water feature (shown above in the orange circle). Villagers don't get inspirational buffs for landscape features, but watching a smith crafting all those important tools and items next to a waterfall would certainly be eye-catching.

Located southwest of Ostoya, the waterfall can be found simply by following the river's flow. West of the wonderous cascade is another ideal location with an oxbow, the river's bend that gives this map its name. The many wild animals and nearby resources (clay, reeds, and stones) make it an excellent starter location, even if it is a little far afield.

1 The Valley - North & Southeast Of Denica

One Offers A Central Location, The Other An Abundance Of Resources

near denica medieval dynasty
  • Two sets of land offer players different options depending on the dynastic goals
  • The land near the lake east of Lesnica offers plentiful resources and ample land

North of Denica, Medieval Dynasty players might notice a particularly striking layout on their maps: an intersection of roads and rivers with plenty of farmable flat land (seen in the red circle above). Although this is a central area with plenty of space to expand, no mines or clay can be found here. There is a wagoner in Denica for fast travel, but it can be challenging to get resources there, making it a tricky place for new players to set up. However, just southeast of Denica, exactly east of Lesnica (marked by the orange circle), lies a prime plot of land to begin building.

Here, flat space is plentiful. Clay can be found directly west of where the river meets the lake. There are two mines in the area just waiting to be discovered, and straw can be easily gathered from the reeds on the east side of the lake. Pigs roam to the northwest, and deer to the west. Just watch out for the wolves prowling to the southwest. By exploring the lakeside, players will be able to find a small clearing perfect for a starter home and plenty of trees around for wood.
