Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is the latest entry in the Medal of Honor series since 2012’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter released just over eight years ago. Above and Beyond’s release date is slowly approaching, and Respawn Entertainment is detailing some of the extra features the game has to offer.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond differs from past entries in the series in that it’s entirely VR-focused this time around. However, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond maintains the series’ reverence for historical accuracy, this time through extra WW2 documentaries featuring real war veterans included in the game’s Gallery.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond looks to be taking a lot of what made the Medal of Honor series great while pushing the series in a bold new direction. Above and Beyond is an entirely VR-focused first person shooter. However, to make sure the series stays grounded in its roots, Respawn has brought back the series’ original director, Peter Hirschman. Hirschman wrote and directed the original Medal of Honor back in 1999, and is featured heavily in Oculus’ latest YouTube video discussing Above and Beyond’s Gallery.

The video details what players can expect from the Gallery. The description describes the Gallery as “a powerful collection of short documentary films featuring WWII veterans that players will be able to view within the game.” The video also shows some of the veterans who will be featured in the Gallery, along with some of the real locations where certain historical battles took place. Though the Medal of Honor series has laid dormant for over eight years now, it’s refreshing to see the series get new life once again through VR.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will release for PC and Oculus on December 11.
