With more than 50 Mechs to choose from, players will find that no two Mechs are created equally in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. With several options to choose from, including Light, Medium, Heavy, and Assault, they each offer their own unique benefits. Here's a look at the best Heavy Mechs the game has to offer.

10 Rifleman

Rifleman in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

The Rifleman's intended use is as an anti-air Mech. Because of this, it has moderate speed and goes light on the armor. However, it has the distinctive ability of nearly being able to look directly up while in the process of rotating 360 degrees.

Each variant is specifically equipped to handle anti-aircraft duties. They are not very efficient against Mechs of similar weight classes. They are generally reserved for direct fire support because of the sacrifice made to speed and armor to provide advanced weaponry.

9 Catapult

Catapult in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

The Catapult Mech is essential for firing at long range and is best known for its uniquely identifiable torso that's shaped like an egg. The Catapult Mech normally possesses racks for large missiles as well as weapons of smaller sizes for self-defense.

Most of its variants come with Active Radar Probes, Jump Jets, and LAMS. Speed is far from being its strongest suit, and it instead excels in armor and larger ammunition space which allows it to support from a longer range for longer periods of time, as well as survive most moderate threats.

8 Thunderbolt

The Thunderbolt is designed with several different weapons. It features a long-range missile launcher and a long-range laser. It also has close-range weapons, including medium lasers and another missile launcher. Simply put, it's loaded for warfare.

For defense, the Mech features 13 tons of armor. In addition, it sports a 13.5-ton fusion engine that gives it a decent speed of 64.8 km/hr. While it suffers from overheating when used for rapid fire, this Mech is awesome with its variety of weaponry.

7 Warhammer

Warhammer in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

Ten tons of armor protect the Warhammer from receiving significant damage. In addition, it's protected from overheating with its 18 heat sinks, which allow for rapid firing without concern. This Mech also has a 16-ton fusion engine that allows for a top speed of 64.8 km/hr.

It features a special searchlight that works with the targeting system. This light can function on its own or tie directly into the tracking system. Because of this, the Warhammer makes an effective Mech for night fighting.

6 Black Knight

Featuring all energy weapons, the Black Knight can deal significant damage as it closes ranks on its enemies. With weapons for long-range and close-range fighting, it is well-equipped to handle anything.

It is protected by 13 tons of armor, handling intense punishment from its enemies. The only drawback is the part of its design that uses single heat sinks. However, it does use 20 of them, allowing for the dissipation of a significant amount of heat.

5 Cataphract

The Cataphract is ideal for urban brawling situations. It is advanced to handle front-line operations. It's perfect for medium and close-ranged combat, dealing damage to anything that gets in its way.

It features 16 heat sinks to keep it cool, allowing for maximum firepower. In addition, its 11 tons of armor keep this Mech protected from significant damage while brawling in the streets. It can also jump 120 meters, making it an even more versatile heavy Mech.

4 Grasshopper

The Grasshopper is well-known for its mobility with a speed of 64.8 km/hr and a jumping ability of 120 meters. It features 22 heat sinks, giving it absolutely superior heat dissipation capabilities, while also having a much lower dependence on ammunition than other heavy Mechs.

While similarly weighted Mechs can outgun it, its mobility combined with its 13 tons of armor allows it to inflict significant damage before needing to retreat. Additionally, its primary weapon is mounted in the center of its torso, which allows it to lose its limbs and still be battle ready.

3 Marauder

The Marauder features a unique silhouette that makes it a challenge for enemies to target. It is protected by 11.5 tons of armor that was also flawless at distributing heat throughout the system. With 16 heat sinks, competent MechWarriors have no trouble operating this Mech.

This Mech is adequately prepared for battles both close and far, although there are sometimes troubles with its guns getting knocked loose. When this happens, it has lasers that can handle the Mechs that get up close, keeping it safe from harm.

2 Quickdraw

Quickdraw in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

The Quickdraw is ideal for medium and short-range combat, which is what all its weapons except one are targeted for. Because the arm actuators can bend both forward and backward, the pilot is able to fire the lasers on the Quickdraw in both directions.

The rear firepower capability results in quite a surprise for anyone trying to sneak up behind this Mech. The main downsides to the Quickdraw are weak ankles and potential for overheating.

1 Orion

Orion in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

The Orion is excellent against both land and air targets. It is well-suited to all types of battle, both near and far, with its diverse range of weaponry. However, with its limited number of heat sinks, it can overheat. A skilled pilot will understand that they must switch between weapons to avoid this.

Additionally, the Orion is outfitted with 14.5 tons of armor for ultimate protection. In fact, it is superior to many of the other heavy Mechs, making this potentially the best option there is.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
