Characters from the Mass Effect franchise, and the relationships that players are able to have with them, are a significant part of what makes the games so special for many fans. Through a binary morality system, Mass Effect lets players determine the outcome of different interactions between themselves and each squadmate.
Though the original Mass Effect contains pivotal moments between characters, the game's sequels have demonstrated dynamic interactions. For example, Mass Effect 2 had dedicated loyalty missions that influenced whether characters will survive or perish during the game's final mission. While character preferences are subjective and based on player discretion, it is entertaining to see which characters were important to players. Over the last little while, a fan has been celebrating Mass Effect's characters and depicting what they represent to them.
User cardo_de_comer shares an impressive series of Mass Effect tarot card illustrations. The fan has labeled each custom character card with an assigned symbol based on tarot's Major Arcana. For example, cardo_de_comer's character card for Garrus assigns him as Judgement. Others have responded agreeably to Garrus as Judgement, since he is seen as having a black-and-white perspective on vigilantism and justice. Fans have since speculated about which Mass Effect characters would best fit which tarot signs, based on their personalities and characteristics throughout each game.
Joker and the Normandy representing The Chariot card is seemingly a consensus agreement among fans. As for Shepard, many fans believe they would assume The Fool, being the protagonist of the franchise. BioWare's Mass Effect: Legendary Edition brought with it an enhanced and complete edition of each game from the original trilogy. This way, fans have been able to experience the game again and for the first time, with this artist likely falling into the former category.
Based on the artist's hard work, it is possible to see which characters were the most important to them throughout the franchise. The fan-artist has also confirmed that their Mass Effect character tarot cards are inspired by the tarot cards that appear in Dragon Age: Inquisition, which may change in-game depending on a character's actions.
While some fans have celebrated Mass Effect's characters through cosplay, cardo_de_comer has shown an artistic take on a number of the franchise's characters. Some fans may be disappointed, as cardo_de_comer does not currently have any plans to sell their character cards. However, they do plan to produce character cards for each of the Major Arcana in a gradual manner, so fans may be excited to stay tuned and keep an eye out for more Mass Effect character cards in the future.
