A fan of the Mass Effect franchise has posted a hilarious video online that edits The Office's Michael Scott into the games. The video, simply titled "Michael Scott in Mass Effect," edits many of Steve Carell's finest moments on the show into some of Mass Effect's most recognizable set pieces.

First introduced to the gaming world in 2007, Mass Effect claimed its place among the great science-fiction franchises. It's interesting to look at the history of the Mass Effect games, especially as the individuals that worked on them become more open about their experiences at the time. Gamers were given a treat last year, as director of the original trilogy Casey Hudson shared the original pitch for Mass Effect with fans.

The video by YouTuber eli_handle_b.wav is extremely well-edited and weaves many of Michael Scott's most iconic lines almost seamlessly into the Mass Effect universe. In the video, Michael instructs the Normandy crew to stay calm as it crashes and burns, parties with Shepard's companions on the Citadel, and takes a gut punch from James Vega, among other surprises. For fans of either franchise, there are laughs to be had at the absurdity of it. Funny fan edits are becoming more common in the Mass Effect community, with one fan creating a video that pokes fun at Shepard's crew throughout the trilogy.

The YouTuber is becoming known for this sort of mash-up. In one of eli_handle_b.wav's last projects, they combined Shrek with Fallout 4, which was another bizarre combination that is surprisingly funny. The seemingly random nature of these mash-ups means that fans can't even make a guess as to what they're planning to release next.

As for the Mass Effect games themselves, it's currently unclear when BioWare is planning to release the next entry in the franchise. Teasers have begun to release for Mass Effect 4, but details have been sparse so far, although that hasn't stopped fan speculation from running wild. Fun videos such as this one show that the games retain the interest of players, even years after release. Though the 2017 release of Mass Effect: Andromeda didn't live up to many's expectations, the success of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition ensured that the franchise received another shot at getting it right.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
