As players work to track down Matriarch Benezia in Mass Effect, they will encounter a puzzle that can be quite difficult to solve. More specifically, this is the Memory Core puzzle that is located on Noveria, and fans must complete it in order to get a disabled VI up and running. For those players that may be having some trouble figuring out how to approach Mass Effect's Mira Core puzzle, this guide is here to provide assistance.

To begin, it is important to establish exactly how this puzzle in Mass Effect works, as its core functionality may be a bit confusing upon first glance. Essentially, the goal here is for RPG fans to transfer all of the modules from Memory Core 1 to another Core, moving only one module at a time. The process for moving a module is comprised of two steps, picking it up and placing it, and this is where things can get tricky.

To try to put things as simply as possible, the highest active module (blue) in a Core will be picked up when a Mass Effect player presses the input that appears at the top of that Core. Players can then press the input that appears at the top of another Core to place the picked-up module in the same position in that Core. However, fans can not place a module below a module that is already active (blue), which means that a Core needs to be built from the bottom up.

Doing this requires that the modules be moved back and forth across the Cores until the stack is rebuilt in Memory Core 2 or 3. This can be seen depicted in the video that is featured above, and players that follow along should have the Noveria VI active in no time. Alternatively fans can reference the following solution, which provides an order for moving modules between Memory Cores:

  • Core 1 -> 2 | Core 1 -> 3 | Core 2 -> 3 | Core 1 -> 2 | Core 3 -> 1 | Core 3 -> 2 | Core 1 -> 2 | Core 1 -> 3 | Core 2 -> 3 | Core 2 -> 1 | Core 3 -> 1 | Core 2 -> 3 | Core  1 -> 2 | Core 1 -> 3 | Core 2 -> 3

To note, it is possible to bypass this puzzle completely by spending 100 omni-gels, which can be obtained by breaking down things like armor and weapons in Mass Effect. Players are presented with this option as soon as they interact with the Memory Core, and it certainly expedites this section considerably. That said, 100 omni-gels is not  a small amount, and players may simply not have enough of the material to pursue this alternative approach at this stage of the game.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
