Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is easily one of the most anticipated releases of this year. Many gamers are finally getting the chance to experience one of the greatest sci-fi trilogies in gaming history without being held back by dated gameplay, muddy visuals, or the technical limitations of its time.

Now, with the highest-end technology powering the systems of Mass Effect, players can safely and comfortably strap themselves in for a wild ride. Placing themselves in the shoes of Commander Shepard, gamers explore the farthest reaches of the Milky Way. A player who genuinely wishes to explore each and every corner of this galaxy will certainly be thrilled to find the following hidden locations throughout the series.

10 Sinmara

Mission on Sinmara in Mass Effect

A moon of the planet Surtur located in the Caleston Rift, Sinmara is features a hidden side quest in Mass Effect 2. Players need to activate the colony's shields in order to survive the toxic radiation from the Sun in this system.

What's odd about this planet is that the description outright states that there's no atmosphere in this planet. Yet, players who land near the colony will notice everything that's present in a normal atmosphere, including clouds and a distinct coloration of the sky itself.

9 Taitus

Taitus in Mass Effect 2

A planet featuring a rather phoned-in side mission, Taitus is another planet from the Caleston Rift. In its side mission, players need to accompany a YMIR Mech as it embarks to fish out a valuable cache of resources present somewhere in one of the planet's canyons.

The mission is rather straightforward, with the player having to find Power Cells to keep the YMIR Mech running. The only threat present in this side mission comes in the form of two varren, who can easily be dealt with.

8 Watson

Skepsis System in Mass Effect 2

This planet in the Skepsis System gets its name from a notable scientist — just like most of the other planets in this system. Scanning Watson reveals a distress signal. Batarians have launched a bunch of javelin missiles towards the colony from its moon, Franklin.

This leads to a mission where the player only has five minutes to defeat the Batarians. They must intercept these missiles before they end up destroying the colony.

7 Canalus

The Dirada System in Mass Effect 2

In the Dirada System of the Pylos Nebula, Canalus is a unique planet. Here, players will witness a rather strange and obscure weather pattern. Clearly, it has been artificially created by the Geth on the planet, who are trying out new technology.

Shepard and his squad touch down on this planet to fight the Geth in a thick fog, and destroy the technology they're using to create this anomalous weather patterns.

6 Asteroid X57

This is a major point of focus for people who are planning to test out the first DLC pack for the first Mass Effect title. This DLC, Bring Down The Sky, toys with the idea of people redirecting an asteroid to crash into the human colony of Terra Nova in the Asgard System.

It's a genuinely excellent DLC to play through. Players need to find out this hidden asteroid by checking the asteroid belt in the Asgard System. Keep in mind that finding hidden asteroids in every system's belt is slightly more challenging now, since these bodies don't really twinkle in the Legendary Edition like they did in the base game. It's a rather odd thing to exclude from an otherwise stellar remaster.

5 Alchera

Mass Effect 2 Screenshot From Normandy Crash Site

Mass Effect 2 starts out with the Normandy crashing and Shepard apparently dying. However, the Commander is brought back to life by Cerberus in a bid for this organization to use him for their own twisted desires.

Players who want to check out the wreckage of the ship can definitely do so, after they receive a report a fair ways into the story. Roaming around this crash site and experiencing a bunch of flashbacks makes for an emotional experience.

4 Helyme

The captured mining facility on Helyme in Mass Effect

In the Zelene System, Helyme features a high-octane mission. Shepard and the crew discover and fight against a mining facility that's been overrun by members of the Eclipse mercenary group.

Going through this mining facility and encountering the host of Eclipse mercenaries that lie within can prove to be quite a blast. It's a shame that players who fail to scan this system would fail to enjoy a fun, combat-heavy sidequest in the game.

3 Luna

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Shooting At The Turrets At Luna Base

After reaching Level 20, the first Mass Effect decides to test the player's combat skills. Players receive a mission that takes place on the moon itself.

Looking up and seeing a familiar planet in the form of Earth might be an interesting sight. Players won't have time to enjoy this view for long though. With a rogue VI on the loose on the moon, players need to get through a whole host of combat encounters. They must clear out three heavily-protected bunkers in order to take care of this VI's threat once and for all.

2 Eletania

Prothean Ruin On Eletania in Mass Effect

Eletania is one of the more fascinating planets that players can choose to explore. Its interest lies in no small part due to the mysterious Prothean Sphere they can discover on this planet.

Interacting with this relic leads to an interesting vision that players receive through walls of text. It's a shame that the Legendary Edition didn't take some time to elaborate upon this vision with a cinematic of some sorts. It's easily one of the biggest missed opportunities in this great remaster.

1 Ontarom

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Finding The Shifty Looking Cow Again

There's no shortage of notable planets in the Mass Effect series. Players who manage to land on and explore Ontarom will find themselves encountering one of the most interesting characters in the game — a Shifty Looking Cow.

Present within a herd of space cows, the Shifty Looking Cow follows the player around. It will steal their credits slowly when the player turns their back. Talking or killing the cow is useless. The former action does nothing, while the latter just causes it to respawn in seconds.
