With Mass Effect: Legendary Edition out in the world for about two weeks now, fans have been hard at work creating mods and bringing about much-appreciated changes to the remastered series. Recently, one modder released a mod that enables the in-game console commands for both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, allowing players access to a number of handy cheats if they so choose.

The fan community for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is already responsible for quite a few mods to the remastered games, including several quality-of-life mods that make adjustments to everything from same-sex romances to the games' camera options, granting a more malleable field of view for players. The console command mod, published by Nexus Mods user Mgamerz, gives players even more control over the game than they have normally.

The mod, simply titled "Enable In-Game Console," unlocks a console that lets players perform quick and easy cheats by typing in corresponding codes. Included in the console's commands is the option to grant Shepard a bonus to their paragon or renegade points, extra XP in order to further increase their level, and the ability to send Shepard a few extra credits for armor and weapons purchases.

Console commands are there for the sake of convenience, and there are more than the three mentioned above; Mass Effect 2's console commands even include the ability to clear an entire room of enemies, or grant specific abilities to different squad members. A complete list of command codes can be found in both the Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 wikis for players curious to test console commands out.

However, players who download the new Legendary Edition mod should note that not every console command is going to work perfectly this time around, since the ones listed are from the original games. It's possible some codes may have been changed for the remastered versions of the Mass Effect trilogy, and this could lead to issues with the console. A number of players have already confirmed all of the basic console commands still work, including the addition of credits and XP. Players interested in the mod should also note they'll need to download the version of the mod compatible with their game, as Legendary Edition has already received a sizable patch.

Beyond that, console commands are ready for use by those with a PC version of the game, with full instructions on the mod's homepage for installation and use. While cheats certainly aren't for everyone, many players may find the convenience of console commands in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition impossible to resist.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
