A gamer online has posted a Mass Effect clip in which they accidentally send the Mako into another dimension entirely. There have been plenty of bizarre Mass Effect bugs discovered by gamers over the years, but this one is perhaps the strangest of the lot.

The Mako was one of the most controversial parts of the original Mass Effect. Upon release, it faced plenty of criticism for its awkward handling, a feature that many feel is now part of its charm all these years later. Despite this, it was removed from the sequels before a similar mechanic was re-added with Mass Effect: Andromeda. It was huge news when Mass Effect: Legendary Edition improved on the Mako controls, despite offering the option to return to the controls of the original. The revamped controls were a success, making the Mako a much better experience to use all around.

The clip of the bug was posted by Redditor Anarchist226, who drives Mass Effect's Mako directly into a force field. Rather than simply blocking the player in their tracks, the force field completely glitches out, sending Shepard and his companions falling to the bottom of the map and into another dimension. The clip cuts off before they're teleported back to the surface, so it's unclear just how game-breaking this bug can be. If the player had to reload a save after this, it could have cost them lots of progress which would understandably be frustrating.

According to the comments section of the thread, this is actually quite a common bug in Mass Effect. It certainly seems to be easily reproduced, as all they do is drive into a particular surface near the end of the game. This particular instance happens in the Legendary Edition, but it's currently unclear if the same can be done in the original game.

There are many players who feel that the Mako should make a return for Mass Effect 4. There are certainly some massive pros and cons, as it provides a great way to expand on the many planets in Mass Effect's galaxy. It's entirely possible that the awkward handling of the Mako in the original game was a direct result of it being developed in 2007, and it being a feature that just hasn't aged too well. Its equivalent in Mass Effect: Andromeda, the Nomad, was certainly better received, so it makes sense for BioWare to give it another shot with Mass Effect 4.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
