BioWare releases the first major cinematic trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda, giving fans a close look at who Ryder will be squaring up against.

BioWare hinted that the studio would be revealing more Mass Effect: Andromeda content in celebration of N7 Day, and fans keeping an eye out today will have already tasted some coveted Mass Effect news with today's earlier box art and deluxe edition leak. However, it's no surprise that BioWare had larger (and more intentional) plans for N7 Day: the studio has now released the first cinematic reveal trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The new cinematic trailer opens to the gravelly voice of Clancy Brown, who dons the roll of the father to both potential protagonists. He states that whatever peaceful intentions that humanity's fleet intended for its journey were shattered not long after they arrived at the new destination, indicating players will have to forcefully carve out a place for humanity's new home rather than peacefully settle it.

The trailer also offers the first in-depth look at the male Ryder, who was revealed after his sister made her initial debut. Fans can take a gander at the male protagonist - and a first look at many enemies and locations - in the trailer below:

The trailer above also offers a brief glimpse at some Salarian shoulders retreating from an enemy, confirming that the amphibian race will make an appearance in Andromeda alongside other major species from the original trilogy, like the Asari and the Turians. More noticeable were the gigantic mechanical squid-like enemies which give off a familiar thresher maw vibe, and the rock-like enemy with connected horns who may just be the game's main antagonist.

Fans who were hopeful that some actual gameplay may find its way into the trailer will have been disappointed to see a purely cinematic showing, although it's possible that leaked footage from several months ago already showed jetpack traversal from an earlier build. Even after discounting jetpacks, the trailer seemed to have a strong focus on gravity, with Ryder's squad finding a gravity well and one of the enemies nonchalantly floating into a scene.

It's not currently known if BioWare has any other major announcements scheduled for N7 Day, so Mass Effect fans may want to stick around in case more news about the game comes to light over the next few hours.

What do you think about the Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer, Ranters? Does Ryder's precarious situation interest you, or would you have preferred a glimpse at the gameplay?

Mass Effect: Andromeda is scheduled to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and PC in the first quarter of 2017, provided it isn't delayed.
