Of the games included in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Mass Effect 2 would be a strong contender for the title of fan-favorite. While every game in the series has its strengths and weaknesses, Mass Effect 2 is remembered fondly by many who played through it. One of the driving factors behind that is its selection of crew members that players can join up with. For those looking to fill out their crew with a Geth, here's how to unlock Legion in Mass Effect 2.

Legion is a unique character in his own right, being something of a black sheep in the overarching narrative of Mass Effect 2 compared to some of the other, more typical followers that players will recruit. Legion is a Geth, and more specifically, the combined conscious of more than 1,000 Geth programs in a mobile platform.

To unlock Legion in Mass Effect 2, players will need to progress through the story until they unlock the Reaper IFF mission. The Illusive Man will send players to hunt down the IFF object so that they can pass through the Omega 4 Relay safely, and it just so happens that there might be one on a derelict Reaper.

Legion in Mass Effect 2

During the mission, the player will encounter Legion several times, with the Geth machine assisting him along the way. Eventually, Legion will be knocked unconscious during a battle with Husks. Upon completing the mission, Shepard and his crewmates will debate what to do with the fallen Legion, with players taking Legion to the Normandy, and being given the option to reactivate it or to sell it off to Cerberus.

It's important to note here that selling Legion to Cerberus will block the Geth from joining the crew permanently, so players that want Legion added as a teammate shouldn't let the 50,000 credit reward for doing so tempt them. Instead, go to the AI Room, which is located near the medical chamber. There, players will be able to reactivate Legion. After a brief conversation, Legion will ask to be added to Shepard's crew, which players can oblige to unlock Legion as a crewmate.

That's all there is to it. Legion is one of Mass Effect 2's most interesting crewmates, largely because of how unique the Geth is compared to some of the other options. Unlocking Legion in Mass Effect 2 isn't a very difficult process, as it happens during the natural progression of the story, but it is something that players can block off permanently if they make the wrong decision.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
