Much like Kaidan Alenko and Ashley Williams, Liara T'Soni won't join Commander Shepard's crew in Mass Effect 2, unfortunately. However, players can meet her on Illium where she will ask Shepard for help with a quest. Here's where players can find the security terminals that Liara is requesting Shepard to hack in the quest Liara: System Hacking.

When arriving on Illium, Commander Shepard will find that Liara has been working as a successful and powerful information broker, which is why she'll be unable to join their team. After catching up and getting some useful information from the Asari, Liara will ask Shepard for a favor as a skilled hacker. She needs to get information from a few different security terminals located around Illium. After hacking into one, she explains, Shepard can datamine the information from a nearby server for a limited time.

All three terminals can be found on the southern half of Illium's map in the same vicinity. The first security terminal is located near the Tracking Office, and the corresponding server is located next to Baria Frontiers. For the terminals, look for screens mounted to the wall similar to the Galactic News televisions around Mass Effect 2. They will pop up with the name "Secure Station." Then, it'll be the normal minigame of stringing together three segments of code.

After the firewalls are removed, Shepard will have 60 seconds to get the data from the server. These are labeled as "Vulnerable System," but all of these terminals look a bit different. A number on the bottom-right corner of the screen indicates how far Shepard is from the server. Simply click on the prompt to upload the data.

The second terminal can be found near Gateway Personal Defense where the Krogan Charr is standing nearby, and the server is just to the right of the Tracking Office. The third terminal is near Gateway Personal Defense next to two talking Asari and the sever for it is behind Memories of Illium.

After getting the data from all three terminals, Shepard can return to Liara to inform her and receive compensation. Then, she'll inform Shepard what the purpose of the assignment was: getting a leg up on the Shadow Broker.

As a side note, thanks to the addition of the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC, a correlating dialogue option will appear when first speaking with Liara. If Shepard starts Liara: System Hacking, then selects the dialogue option relating to the Shadow Broker, the System Hacking quest will auto-complete without awarding credits or experience, so make sure to complete the former mission first before beginning the DLC quest.
