One of the most important details about a superhero is their costume. The element that makes them immediately recognizable, even from just their silhouette, a superhero's costume is incredibly important for every iteration of the character, regardless of the form of media they appear in. At its best, a good superhero costume can make a hero seem grounded, realistic, and larger than life, while at its worst, a bad superhero suit can take fans right out of the experience. This is why Insomniac needs to be extremely careful with its choice of suits in Marvel's Wolverine.

Insomniac has already had quite a bit of experience in the superhero field, developing the excellent Marvel's Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and their upcoming sequel, and that experience shows just how important the concept of the superhero suit is to the developers. Insomniac's bold Spidey suit design, with the huge white spider on the front and back, is now one of the most iconic iterations of the costume, and it seems likely that Insomniac will want to achieve the same with Marvel's Wolverine, delivering not just a unique main suit but also a ton of alternate costumes. And when it comes to choosing alternate costumes for Marvel's Wolverine, there's one brand-new suit that should definitely make the cut.

Translating a comic book costume to live-action is no easy task, and it's something the industry has struggled with for decades. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has started to introduce more comic-accurate suits, when it started a good few heroes had some dramatically altered costumes, lacking some of the bright visuals usually associated with those outfits in the comics. But things were a lot worse before the MCU.

Wolverine has had multiple truly iconic costumes over the last 49 years, but by far the most widely known is his classic yellow, blue, and black outfit. Though Wolverine's costume is constantly changing, the color scheme and general look usually stay the same regardless of the illustrator or comic run. For years fans have been desperately pleading for a comic-accurate live-action Wolverine suit, and for years they've been let down time and time again.

The first live-action Wolverine appearance was, of course, 2000's X-Men. Ahead of its time in many ways, and horrendously dated in many others, X-Men is always a fun rewatch, but it fails dramatically in the costume department. Rather than give each member of the team their own colorful costume, X-Men instead decided to give them all the same generic-looking black leather suit, with only a hint of yellow outlining being visible on Wolverine's. This stayed largely the same for the sequels, albeit with some brighter yellow highlights, and a big yellow "X" on Wolverine's belt. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Wolverine is given another pretty generic armored costume, though this time the sleeves are yellow, and the underarms are a dark blue color, at least hinting toward the iconic comic suit.

Right at the end of The Wolverine, Logan is gifted a box containing a brown and black variation of his original suit, complete with the mask and everything. But alas, Hugh Jackman never actually dons the suit in the movie. But now, 13 years after the first live-action Wolverine appearance, fans are finally getting their wish. Just a few days ago, some leaked set photos of Deadpool 3 revealed that Hugh Jackman will finally be wearing the classic yellow, blue, and black suit, though seemingly without the accompanying mask. It's likely that Marvel's Wolverine will want to add a ton of alternate suits to the game, just like they did with Marvel's Spider-Man, and this Deadpool 3 suit needs to be included in the roster, being a celebration of the very first comic-accurate Wolverine suit put to live-action.

Marvel's Wolverine is currently in development.
