Gamers all across the globe are waiting with bated breath for Marvel's Wolverine. A PlayStation 5 exclusive, this upcoming game will feature Weapon X himself with a single-player narrative crafted by Insomniac Games (the same studio behind Marvel's Spider-Man). Wolverine's solo film series as well as his appearances in the X-Men films were quite popular, so it'll be interesting to see how successful the upcoming game proves to be.

While there will undoubtedly be plenty of X-Men and Wolverine villains showing up throughout the game, fans will be looking for some familiar faces in Wolverine's rogue's gallery. One of those familiar faces is Blob, who would make a great side villain in Marvel's Wolverine. While there are plenty of great forgotten superhero games, a lot of characters can be forgotten as well, and Blob fits that description.

Who Is Blob?

The character Blob from X Men Origins Wolverine

Fred Dukes, otherwise known as Blob, is a Marvel character that has been in the comics since 1964. He has plenty of powers, such as superhuman strength, stamina, endurance, durability, and mass as well as his own personal gravity field. An extremely heavy fighting machine, Blob is a dangerous adversary to any Marvel hero, including the invulnerable Wolverine. His skin is impenetrable to most things, and Wolverine has only managed to cut his skin once throughout the comics.

Blob featured in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Kevin Durand in a fat suit. While he was dialed up in slapstick and slightly nerfed from his comic counterpart, Blob was one of the few redeeming features from the movie, which was never considered the best superhero origin story movie due to its treatment of figures like Deadpool. Fans loved the scene of him boxing Logan in the ring and thought he deserved to return in future X-Men movies. Unfortunately, this was the only signifiacnt role for Blob, so he's well overdue a return to the limelight. A small appearance in X-Men Apocalypse is not enough for this iconic character.

Should Blob Appear In Marvel's Wolverine?

The Blob from X Men Battle Diorama

As Blob is overdue a return to the limelight, the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine game would be the perfect opportunity to feature him. Blob is commonly a Wolverine villain, and the pacing of a video game allows for plenty more villains to show up than fans would expect to see in a movie. While Insomniac will do different things with Wolverine than it did with Spider-Man, it's expected that it will again take the route of including lots of villains throughout the story.

As a main villain, Blob would be a pretty poor choice. He hasn't got the calculating sharpness of a Dr. Doom or Magneto, nor the bulldozing threat level of Apocalypse or Sabretooth. However, he is a worthy side boss that could fill a few missions or even a full quest series in Marvel's Wolverine. His size and power style could make for an interesting boss fight, considering his invulnerability. There could be a puzzle aspect to the boss fight where the player has to use the environment and different move combinations to be able to do damage to Blob. With his invulnerable skin, it could make for a challenging encounter.

Insomniac has enjoyed a lot of success from Marvel's Spider-Man, and it is clear the studio will want to repeat that success with Marvel's Wolverine. While the two titular characters are vastly different, they both have an impressive rogue's gallery of villains that complement the character. Blob is written to have ties with Logan through the Weapon X/ Secret Force programs, which was one of the best Wolverine eras. Time will tell whether Blob appears in Marvel's Wolverine as a side boss, but a lot of fans would be happy if he did.

Marvel's Wolverine is currently is development for the PlayStation 5.
