It is no secret that Marvel’s Spider-Man was a massive game, and as is the case with any large release, it had its share of cut content. Originally, the Doc Ock boss fight was meant to be far more over-the-top, with the battle taking place across the entire city. Ultimately, this was scrapped to avoid crunch, with the fight being adjusted so that it takes place on one skyscraper instead.

The Spider-Cop suit is another Marvel's Spider-Man idea that never saw the light of day, possibly due to controversy surrounding real life instances of police brutality. With all the Spider-Cop jokes staying in the game, though, and Spidey having a close relationship with Yuri Watanabe, it is a bit disappointing that this payoff never came. Fortunately, those on PC can access a version of this unreleased attire, patrolling the streets as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Cop.

While Insomniac Games will likely never release this cut costume - especially if the reasoning behind its removal is tied to serious real world topics - those on PC can head to Nexus Mods to access a fully functional version of the costume. Restored by a user named Sirgalahad172 and showcased in a YouTube video from sebanatic5000, the costume looks just like the one fans have been hoping to use for years.

The suit in question sees Spidey wearing a blue police cap and jacket over his classic costume, with the getup letting criminals know who exactly the webslinger is allied with. However, the truly awesome part of this deleted suit is seen on the hero’s face, as Spider-Man’s iconic mask is covered up with some goofy cop-themed additions. Specifically, Spidey sports some sunglasses and a white mustache reminiscent of the one Stan Lee was famous for.

Seeing Spider-Man sporting a mustache and some police getup makes for a silly suit that plays off one of the funnier moments in the game. Though the Insomniac version may have ended up with some special dialogue or a fun suit ability, players being able to use any variant of the costume in the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man is a fun surprise. Perhaps similar suits will be posted, like an all blue variant that leads into the cop theme even more heavily. Either way, it is nice to finally see this costume used in-game.

Similar Suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Could Be Fun To See

Though there could be controversy around Marvel’s Spider-Man if a Spider-Cop suit actually came to the sequel, Insomniac can at least play around with the idea of goofy cosmetics for regular jobs. For instance, a construction worker Spider-Man costume could be interesting, while a firefighter could be another fun design. These types of designs could capture the spirit of the Spider-Cop suit, boasting hats just like the recently restored costume.

While PlayStation users are seemingly out of luck when it comes to using the Spider-Cop suit, it is nice to see the outfit getting some use in the PC version of the game. Wearing this suit when Peter has Spider-Cop-related exchanges with Yuri Watanabe will likely make those moments even funnier, instantly justifying the restoration of the Spider-Cop getup. Hopefully, Insomniac continues the trend of goofy unlockable costumes in the next game, as it is always nice to have a weird outfit to mess around with while swinging through New York. Though some flashy and cool cosmetics should obviously take priority, including some suits on par with the Undies skin as endgame unlocks would certainly be welcome - and Spider-Cop is a good example of how to do a strange suit well.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
