The Marvel's Spider-Man series has found success for a handful of reasons, some of which include Insomniac's stellar storytelling and thrilling gameplay. For longtime fans of the wall-crawler, another reason to love this recent string of Spider-Man games is its willingness to dive deep into the hero's history. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 continues that appreciation of Spidey's legacy in grand fashion, with one of the greatest indications being the game's villains. After the fleet of bad guys in the first game, Insomniac kept its foot on the gas to provide even more foes to fight in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Kraven and Venom are the stars of the show, but Marvel's Spider-Man 2 thoroughly fleshes out the webhead's rogues gallery to make Insomniac's universe feel like a true recreation of the comics. That said, Spider-Man is known for having one of the biggest rogues galleries in comics, and Insomniac still has yet to include many iconic and lesser-known villains. With Marvel's Spider-Man 2 not even a month old, it's a bit early to accurately speculate toward which villains Insomniac will introduce. Nevertheless, Insomniac has a wealth of wrongdoers to choose from when it comes time to work on Spider-Man 3.

How Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Sets The Stage For Three More Villains

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 fills out the webhead's rogues gallery considerably, introducing the likes of Kraven, Venom, Sandman, and others. A few more villains are heavily teased by the time the credits roll as well, villains who could prove to be both Peter and Miles' greatest threat yet.

In the side mission focusing on The Flame, players are introduced to Cletus Kassady, who is better known as the murderous Carnage. Players don't get to witness the red menace in action, but the end of his quest line sees Kassady acquire a symbiote of his own, heavily insinuating that Carnage will make an appearance in full in the next Marvel'sSpider-Man game. Additionally, completing all the Unidentified Target drone chases ends with a teaser for Kraven's half-brother Chameleon, who is a master of disguise and a good choice for a potential side villain in the next game, as he can ruin the lives of Peter and Miles by disguising himself as people from their lives.

While Carnage and Chameleon are certainly something for Spider-Man fans to get excited about, one of the most significant villain teases came in the form of the Green Goblin. After the dust is settled on Peter and Miles' battle with Harry Osborn overtaken by the Venom symbiote, Harry is left comatose and his father Norman is despondent. He orders that the G-Serum be prepared for use on Harry, the same concoction responsible for turning Norman into the Green Goblin. It's unclear now if Harry will be put through the wringer once again and become another iconic villain, but Insomniac seems ready to bring Spidey's arch-nemesis into the fold.

Symbiotes Could Still Cause Trouble In Marvel's Spider-Man 3

Venom wasn't the only symbiote to appear in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, as the game briefly featured Scream and teased the aforementioned Carnage. While the threat of the entire world being consumed by symbiotes may have been dealt with, there are many more from the comics who could work their way into a sequel.

Missing Symbiotes From Insomniac's Spider-Man Universe

  • Riot
  • Toxin
  • Raze
  • Misery
  • Agony
  • Phage
  • Lasher
  • Silence

Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man series has evolved into a full-fledged celebration of the hero's legacy. Its villains are essential to that, and though many have already made an appearance, there's still a lot that could be done. Whether the developer sticks to the comic source material or takes creative liberties, Marvel's Spider-Man 3 should have no trouble finding memorable primary and supporting antagonists. It's much too early to anticipate which Spider-Man villains might make an appearance, but it's never too early to excited by the thought.
