Fan-made cover art for Marvel's Spider-Man makes fun of the controversial Mary Jane missions in the game. Marvel's Spider-Man was released in 2018 and received mostly positive reviews, and it was also nominated for various awards at the end of the year. Since then, Sony has remastered Marvel's Spider-Man on both PS5 and PC to provide graphical enhancements and other improvements.

Despite being well received by both critics and fans, Marvel's Spider-Man came with some controversial missions involving MJ and Miles Morales. These levels boiled down to forced stealth sequences in which players were tasked with slowly moving from cover to cover, in the hopes of reaching the objective without alerting the guards. One Marvel's Spider-Man fan has now made a cover for the game that references these stealth missions.

A Reddit user named patboi729 has shared a fan-made cover for Marvel's Spider-Man with Mary Jane on the front and Spider-Man on the back. They take it one step further, as they have changed the title to “Mary Jane The Game,” with a massive forbidden symbol on Spider-Man. The rest of the cover appears fairly standard as it features the Insomniac Games logo along with an ESRB rating.

Marvel's Spider-Man is filled with fast-paced combat encounters and action-packed set pieces, so perhaps Insomniac Games decided to add these levels to reduce repetition. It should be noted that the forced stealth sequences don’t appear to be universally hated, as some fans mention that they didn’t mind playing as MJ. Another user also agrees that stealth levels offered a break from the action, and it looks like some fans loved the mission in Norman Osborn's Penthouse.

On the other hand, a few players state that the MJ missions are fun during the first playthrough but can become a slog while replaying Marvel's Spider-Man. Most users seem to agree that the missions should have been more forgiving when it comes to the forced stealth, and some dislike Mary Jane’s portrayal in Marvel's Spider-Man.

It’ll be interesting to see if the controversial stealth sequences return in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Perhaps Insomniac Games can make them more engaging with a bigger focus on puzzle solving as opposed to avoiding enemies. Insomniac Games recently confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch in the fall of 2023 on PS5, making it one of the biggest PlayStation exclusives scheduled for the year. Sony also has some other major titles coming next year like Horizon Call of the Mountain for PS VR2, along with The Last of Us Part 1 and Returnal PC ports.

Marvel's Spider-Man is now available on PC, PS4, and PS5.
