Spoilers for Spider-Man 2 ahead.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 allows players to switch between Miles Morales and Peter Parker's perspectives. This gameplay design gives players different playable Spider-Man experiences as the duo attempts to deal with the alien symbiote. However, these aren't the only characters players take control of.

Spider-Man 2 also lets players take control of Mary Jane Watson, Hailey, and Venom. If the next Spider-Man game allows players to play as different characters, Venom should be one of the options. This would serve as a proper culmination of the entire series.

Insomniac Should Double Down on a Controversial Spider-Man 2 Approach With Marvel’s Wolverine

The upcoming Insomniac game Marvel's Wolverine should take a leaf out of Spider-Man 2's book when it comes to one crucial element of its design.

Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

When the alien symbiote is discovered in Spider-Man 2, it has seemingly miraculous powers. It cures Harry Osborn of his illness and makes him nimble and strong enough to keep up with Peter Parker. However, it soon becomes apparent that the symbiote has a corrupting side to it, and it brings more trouble than it solves.

Peter Parker discovers the dark side of the symbiote and is eventually able to resist its influence. However, things aren't the same for Harry who doesn't want to be sick again. He allows the symbiote to possess him, eventually forming a being called Venom. Players get to play as Venom briefly, and it is one of the most fun segments of the game, as Venom is incredibly powerful. Getting a taste of the dark side and the awesome strength that comes with it is a highlight of Spider-Man 2.

Venom is Rumored to Be Getting a Spin-off Game

Gamers enjoyed playing as Venom which has led to questions surrounding whether the character will get his own game. According to senior narrative director Jon Paquette, the studio will look to fan reactions to gauge whether it will make a Venom spin-off game.

Venom Should be Playable in the Next Spider-Man Game

It's hard to guess which characters will be playable in the next Spider-Man game. Spider-Man 2 ends with Peter Parker taking a break from being a superhero and passing the reigns to Miles Morales, so it's uncertain whether Peter will be playable again. It's also a mystery whether secondary characters like Mary Jane and Hailey will be playable once more.

Regardless of what path Insomniac goes, Venom should be one of the playable characters. The long-tongued villain provides some action-packed moments that can't be replicated by any other character, making him irreplaceable.

Sometimes It's Fun to Be an Anti-Hero

Although saving New York and web-swinging through the city is fun, it's also a blast to cause mayhem as the Lethal Protector Venom. Playing as Venom also gives players a change of perspective, allowing players to see the events of the game through the eyes of a villain.

Insomniac is known for its high output of high-quality games, so the wait for the next Spider-Man game shouldn't be too long. If the studio wants to ensure that Spider-Man 3 surpasses its predecessors, Venom being a playable character is a must. If not, players may still get an expanded playable Venom in his rumored spin-off game.
