Warning: Spoilers ahead for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 does a lot of work to set things up for the third game in the series. Major teasers involve the suggestion that Green Goblin will appear in the third mainline game, as well as Cindy Moon, AKA Silk, another Spider-Person. Smaller teases are carefully planted in the game’s side content, with the terrifying Carnage and clever Chameleon both teased as future threats for Peter and Miles. Perhaps most interestingly of all are Doc Ock’s comments about writing the “final chapter,” which could be seen as a bit of a fourth wall break and Insomniac talking directly to its audience.

Assuming that Otto’s dialogue should be taken literally, and that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 will be the last entry in the current storyline, Insomniac cannot miss the chance to give fans what they have been waiting for: Marvel cameos. With Peter Parker potentially set to retire or even die at Otto’s hands in the next game, Insomniac is running out of time to let him interact with other figures in the Marvel universe. Though it could do this later on with Miles or Silk, its version of Peter is beloved, and many would surely be happy to see him cross paths with some of Marvel’s biggest names before he steps aside.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 Can Finally Let Other Heroes Appear

Thus far, the Marvel’s Spider-Man series has gone out of its way to tell fans that other heroes exist within Insomniac’s universe. While the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine will be the most obvious example, those who have been paying attention can find nods to the Inhumans and Avengers within the open-world, as a statue depicting Lockjaw and Avengers Tower itself can be found. The Wakandan Embassy can be visited and serves as the home of a sweet Chadwick Boseman tribute, while Nelson and Murdock’s law firm can be visited - an area that has gotten fans talking in the latest game.

Insomniac Games took things up a notch with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as well, as it saw Black Cat stealing directly from the Sanctum Sanctorum. Home to Doctor Strange and Wong, Black Cat steals an artifact from the Master of the Mystic Arts that allows her to make portals to wherever she wants. While he does not show up physically, Wong reclaims this gadget and leaves a note for Miles, serving as the closest thing to a cameo thus far. Given how an item from another corner of the Marvel universe appeared in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, full cameos for the next game would be a natural progression for the franchise.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 director Bryan Intihar mentioned to Kinda Funny that Spider-Man 3 will be Insomniac’s Avengers: Endgame , comparing Spider-Man 2 to Captain America: Civil War . Considering how many characters were involved in Endgame , Silk alone may not be enough to justify that comparison, meaning that more hero appearances would make sense.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 Could Set Up Insomniac’s Future Marvel Content

With Marvel’s Wolverine showing Insomniac’s interest to continue working with the Marvel brand, there is a chance that the developer crafts games based on other heroes eventually, and cameo appearances in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 could set up those hypothetical games. Another street level hero like Daredevil would be a fine choice for an appearance, and though Insomniac doing a full-on Avengers game would be surprising, having at least one member come out of the tower to help out in the next Spidey game would be nice. Having Miles interact with Black Panther could be enjoyable, while doubling down on Doctor Strange’s involvement would feel natural. Considering his relationship with Peter in the MCU, having the two team-up would feel familiar, with the same able to be said for Daredevil or an Avenger like Iron Man.
