Like most other modern video games, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 provides players with plenty of options when they first boot up the game. In addition to a myriad of accessibility options that many first-party Sony games are now renowned for, players will also need to decide which difficulty setting to choose and how the game will look and play when it comes to graphics and performance.

Most will likely see this as a good thing, as it allows players to experience the game in the way that best suits their needs. When players first boot up the game, they'll be greeted with a choice of four difficulty options, with a fifth being unlocked after they've completed the main story. Though they're named slightly differently, these effectively serve as very easy, easy, normal, hard, and very hard. The good news is that players will be able to change the difficulty in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 after starting their playthrough, and as there aren't any difficulty-related Trophies, they won't be penalized for doing so.

  • Friendly Neighborhood = Very Easy
  • Friendly = Easy
  • Amazing = Normal
  • Spectacular = Hard
  • Ultimate = Very Hard (unlockable)

When they first start playing, players may notice that Friendly Neighborhood, Friendly, and Spectacular are all marked with an asterisk (*). This is nothing to worry about though, as it simply means that the difficulty setting has been changed from the default, Amazing.

Which Visual Settings Should I Choose in Marvel's Spider-Man 2?

On paper, the best Graphics Mode for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is Fidelity with VRR set to Smoothed. In practice, though, the ideal visual settings will likely vary from player to player, based both on their own personal preferences and the television or monitor that they're playing the game on. If it's not 4K, they'll almost certainly want to choose Performance, which will lead to a higher framerate at the expense of a little resolution.

Assuming players do have a 4K display, the decision becomes a bit more difficult. At this point, they'll need to decide whether they want to prioritize graphics (Fidelity) or the amount of frames that they're getting (Performance). If the latter is important, players who are able to should definitely enable 120 HZ Display Mode, as this will reduce input latency and enable higher frame rates.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is available now exclusively for the PS5.
