Highlights

  • Fans are hoping for future DLC in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to feature popular Marvel characters that were absent in previous games.
  • The power of the PlayStation 5 and the multiverse hints in the game could allow for the inclusion of Doctor Strange and Wong in future DLC.
  • Wolverine is expected to be a major inclusion in Insomniac's Marvel games, and fans are eagerly awaiting a DLC that hints at or features the character.

While Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 ensured that some of both the main and side stories contained hints and mentions of popular Marvel characters, there is still much more left to be desired in this region. Given the lack of cameos or appearances from some of New York City's heroes in all three of Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man titles, fans expect an eventual future DLC to change this.

All the Ways Spider-Man 2 References Doctor Strange

Marvel's Spider-Man 2, much like its predecessors, has a ton of references to the rest of the Marvel world, including a few to Doctor Strange.

As Insomniac's focus has now moved toward the development of Marvel's Wolverine, it is becoming increasingly likely for other heroes to gradually be implemented within their Marvel universe, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could be the perfect area to start.

5 Doctor Strange

Spider-Man and Doctor Strange Become Allies in Comics and Movies

Note left by Wong in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • Doctor Strange makes his first appearance in Strange Tales #110 (1951)

While many fans held onto the hope of Stephen Strange's appearance during Miles Morales' encounter with Black Cat, they may have to wait just a little longer. With the presence of the Sanctum Sanctorum in Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) and its current sequel doubling down with an entire quest dedicated to the character, it appears as though the next step may be his full presence on screen with the Spider-Men.

Given the power of the PlayStation 5 and the examples of portal travel seen in both Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, both by Insomniac, an additional DLC would satisfy players across the board if Doctor Strange finally encounters Peter and Miles. With hints toward the multiverse with some of the Spider-Bots widespread across the map referencing the Across The Spider-Verse movie, Insomniac could find a way to involve New York's magician in affairs.

4 Wong

  • Wong makes his first appearance in Strange Tales #110

In the event of Stephen Strange's omission, Wong would more than likely be the next in line to cross paths with Peter or Miles. Given the level of busy work between Strange and Wong of far more serious threats, it would make much more sense for neither of the two characters to be present or active during the events of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Venom's chaos.

With the note left off by Wong after he attempts to find Martin Li using the Wand of Watoomb, Insomniac could be hinting at either a DLC or a new title entirely that will involve Wong's presence, including the potential of interiors within the Sanctum Sanctorum. This would further help to open up the potential of more crossover characters and references to other current Marvel media, especially Across The Spider-Verse.

3 Daredevil

Both Peter Parker & Matt Murdock Have Been Allied Within Several Comics

Matt Murdock in Daredevil
  • Matt Murdock made his first appearance in Daredevil #1 (1964)

In Marvel's Spider-Man (2018), among many of the Marvel character references, fans were excited to see the 'Nelson And Murdock Attorneys At Law' sign when traversing through the city. With its sequel, fans were quick to notice that this sign was still within its same region, but no longer maintained the writing suggesting lawyer Matt Murdock may be in full focus of his life as New York's Daredevil.

Given the strong relationship between Spider-Man and Matt Murdock in the comics and most recently the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been awaiting the pair's alliance in Insomniac's games. While a future standalone Daredevil game is most certainly still possible after Marvel's Spider-Man 2's director Bryan Intihar told fans to stay tuned after discussing Daredevil's references, Matt Murdock may very well have a debut appearance in a DLC.

2 Carnage

Spider-Man and Carnage Once Joined Sides To Take Down Venom

Cletus Kasady in Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • Carnage made its first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #361 (1992)

With Peter Parker's side quest in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 centering around Yuri Watanabe, known as Wraith, and the hunt against The Flame, fans witnessed hints toward Carnage. With Cletus Kasady getting his hands on the Symbiote, never to be seen again throughout the rest of the game, there is a huge possibility for the character to reappear as Carnage within a DLC.

Considering the post-game content, including some Symbiote-infected civilians still left terrorizing New York, the inclusion of Carnage would be befitting and could aid in completing the entire Symbiote and Venom storyline in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, while leaving room for new villains to be front and center in the eventual third installment.

1 Wolverine

Wolverine and Peter Parker Have Both Clashed in Previous Spider-Man Games

Claws in Marvel's Wolverine
  • Wolverine made his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #181 (1974)

If there is any character that is set to be a major inclusion in Insomniac's Marvel games, it is Wolverine. Considering the upcoming release of Marvel's Wolverine currently in development and fans awaiting what is next for the Spider-Men, a DLC that either draws massive hints at Logan or even features the character would be a perfect segway into the brand-new title.

While both Peter and Miles can still meet Logan in Marvel's Wolverine, fans will certainly grasp at the possibility sooner rather than later so as to finally gain an insight into what the title will contain. Since Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) contained three different DLCs for players to enjoy, fans are expecting the same to be done for its sequel. These have the potential to double down on previous renditions by increasing the number of DLCs or the length of each, making more room for characters such as Wolverine to make their debut within Insomniac's growing Marvel universe.
