One Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 player recently defied the Sacred Timeline by visiting Aunt May’s final resting place during one of Peter Parker’s flashbacks – years before she actually dies. The ending of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man put Peter in the age-old classic dilemma of choosing between his personal desires and the greater good when his beloved Aunt May is infected with the deadly Devil’s Breath plague menacing New York City. With May’s blessing, a heartbroken Peter lets her succumb to her illness so that the cure can be replicated for the masses, a somber reminder of the heavy price Spider-Man often pays in his life as a hero.

Aunt May’s sacrifice isn’t forgotten in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as she is often mentioned during Peter’s subplot of struggling to pay off the mortgage on her house and Harry Osborn’s upstart research company is partially named in her honor. Additionally, players can visit her grave as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s open-world version of New York, with both Peter and Miles Morales paying their respects to her alongside Peter’s equally beloved Uncle Ben and the late Officer Jefferson Davis, Miles’s father who was killed in a terrorist attack by the Inner Demons not too long before Aunt May’s own tragic death.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Players Find Heartwarming Developer Tribute

A gamer online discovers a heartwarming tribute in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, dedicated to one of Insomiac Games' former developers.

As it turns out, players can visit these gravesites much earlier in the timeline thanks to a glitch in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Reddit user RebelOrion was one of the players to exploit this by going out of bounds during Peter’s flashback to his first job from J. Jonah Jameson. Since the gravesite was never meant to be seen by players during th game, Insomniac apparently never bothered to alter it. As a result, players like RebelOrion can visit Aunt May’s final resting place while she is still alive and well.

Players have worked out how to break free and explore New York City at will during normally locked Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 story segments, especially a late-game mission where Venom rampages through Oscorp that was later fixed in an update patch. Other eagle-eyed players have uncovered fun little Easter eggs tucked away in Spider-Man 2’s game world, such as discovering that the Rhino may have suffered a gruesome end at the hands of Kraven the Hunter.

RebelOrion even joked about being "an awful person" for having a young Peter posing so cheerfully in front of his beloved aunt and uncle's graves, and they aren't the only ones making light of this newly discovered Spider-Man 2 time paradox. Other Reddit users have commented that Peter's timeline-bending shenanigans will draw the ire of the TVA from Loki, or that perhaps May’s premature death is some sort of cosmic punishment for going beyond the expected narrative path during Peter’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 flashback. In any case, players just keep finding strange new glitches and Easter eggs while exploring Insomniac’s latest superhero epic, and this likely won’t stop anytime soon.
