While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is not coming until 2023, gamers have wasted no time making suggestions about the features they want to see included. However, a recent post Reddit regarding Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 saw some players hoping that a feature from the original game will not be present in the sequel.
This is a significant change from the usual posts about the highly anticipated follow-up, as players are usually asking Insomniac Games to include new gameplay features or costumes in its next game. The feature requests have included wall combat and web launches, while the suit requests have covered everything from Arachknight to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Though there is plenty that gamers would like to see added, it seems like a portion of the fan base could do without the original game’s stealth missions.
Intended to change up the gameplay so that players got a break from playing as Peter Parker, the stealth missions saw gamers controlling MJ and Miles Morales. While Miles having powers now ensures that his missions in the sequel will be more focused on action than sneaking around, there is a chance that the MJ missions could still be featured in some capacity. This is something that Reddit user NaotoBot clearly does not want, and the same could be said for the 1,100 people that upvoted the gamer’s post.
In the comments, several Marvel’s Spider-Man fans detailed why they did not enjoy these gameplay sections. StormiReddit called the missions “annoying,” “stressful,” and “boring,” while FortniteGamerz123 said that only the Penthouse and Grand Central missions were enjoyable since they allowed for takedowns. Others, like BluntGut, believe that the missions are unenjoyable on replays, while Alien_X10 believes the missions are overly slow and there is too much waiting around. Others argued that MJ’s distraction methods made her missions unfun compared to Miles’ sections, while several commenters claimed that they simply want to play as Spider-Man in his own game.
However, it is worth noting that the community is fairly split on the missions, with many arguing that they were enjoyable. Commenters like Daveed75 said that they enjoyed having a different perspective on certain events, with Hxcfrog090 calling the Grand Central missions one of their favorite stealth levels in all of gaming. Others, like Jimmyneautronpowers, claimed that they made Spidey’s villains more intimidating. In a direct contrast to the original post,TheDarkStar56 stated that they want more MJ missions in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
With even more comments saying that they were indifferent to the missions because of their brevity, it will be interesting to see how Insomniac Games approaches the levels in the sequel. Whether they include more of them or remove the stealth sections entirely, it seems like a portion of the fan base is going to be let down.
