Highlights

  • Miles Morales has become incredibly popular as Spider-Man, thanks to appearances in movies and video games, proving that he is one of the best iterations of the character.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will feature both Miles Morales and Peter Parker as playable characters, each with their own distinct skill trees.
  • Miles Morales will have new traversal abilities like a super slingshot and web wings, as well as new gadgets and bioelectric powers, making him even more exciting to play as in the upcoming game.

Over the last few years, Miles Morales has become a household name, and for good reason. Miles Morales has since become one the most popular characters to ever wear the Spidey suit, with his appearance in both Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse cementing the character's popularity in the mainstream, while Insomniac's own version of the youthful wall-crawler shows how to adapt the character to the video game format. In just two months' time, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is going to further prove why Miles Morales deserves to be held up as one of the best Spider-Men out there.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set to bring a plethora of improvements to Insomniac's already-beloved superhero series, ranging from new enemy types and a larger New York City to new villains and an even more personal story. But by far one of Marvel's Spider-Man 2's biggest additions is the ability to play as both Miles Morales and Peter Parker, both of whom will have their own distinct skill trees.

Every Miles Morales Ability Confirmed for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 So Far

Soon after Marvel's Spider-Man 2's gameplay trailer aired back in June, Insomniac confirmed that the game would have three separate skill trees. The first of these skill trees will cover all of Peter Parker's new Symbiote-based abilities, while the second tree covers all of Miles Morales' new powers, and the third covers any abilities shared by the two Spider-Men. The June gameplay trailer showcased a few of these shared abilities.

After Peter goes on a Symbiote suit rampage, Marvel's Spider-Man 2's second trailer swaps over to Miles Morales, who's tasked with hunting down the Lizard, located by the river. To get there, Miles uses two of his new traversal abilities. The first of these is a super slingshot, allowing Miles to latch onto two rooftop poles and propel himself far into the sky. Then, using the momentum of that slingshot move, Miles uses another one of his new abilities, the Web Wings, which allows him to glide through the air. It seems like players will also be able to use wind tunnels while gliding to give them a further boost of speed.

A bit further on in Marvel's Spider-Man 2's gameplay trailer, a few of Miles Morales' new gadgets can be seen. It's currently unclear whether these gadgets will also be available for Peter, but they seem to suit Miles' playstyle perfectly. The first new web gadget is a web line, allowing players to attach a web line to a wall, and walk across it like a tightrope. From here, players can get the drop on enemies, and use the new double stealth takedown ability to take down two unsuspecting guards at once. Miles also has access to an improved remote web mine, which pulls in three enemies at once when activated.

Two new bioelectric powers—which now have a stark blue color scheme—have currently been confirmed for Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Miles Morales. The first of these is a sort of teleport ability that sees Miles launch into the sky, and land on top of his enemies instantly, damaging them all with bioelectricity along the way.

The second new bioelectric ability fires a charge directly into one enemy, knocking them back and spreading a chain lightning effect to those around them, used in this instance as a parry. Miles' shiny new blue bioelectricity will also be used in his finishers. Though these are the only bioelectric powers revealed so far, the gameplay demo did show another two in the UI, suggesting that Miles will have at least four new bioelectric abilities in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
